Minecraft Could End Up On The PlayStation 3. Maybe.

I know it sounds crazy. But if someone had told me that Minecraft would be released on the Xbox 360 and become a massive, massive success I would have spat whatever beverage I was consuming right in their stupid face. So when Jens Bergensten, the man now in charge of Minecraft, tells us that Minecraft on the PlayStation 3 is a possibility, I'm inclined to believe him.

"Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles," he told iGamer. "When it runs out we’ll consider Minecraft for PS3, but Wii U is very unlikely."

Considering the PS3 is far more supportive of Indies in general, and considering the PSN is a far more open system, I'm actually surprised that Minecraft didn't make its console debut there. I think it would be a roaring success.

I am interested to know why Wii U is unlikely as it arguably as the best store when it comes to indie games apart from Steam and the Wii U Gamepad would be amazing with Minecraft.

The only explanation I could think of is development cost and time, perhaps the dev has more experience with PS3 and doesn't want to spend time delving into the Wii U.

The user base is also smaller, however the console is new and a game like Minecraft on the Wii U would be making sales all throughout it's lifespan.

The Wii U is more than capable of handling Minecraft, and if the gamepad was utilised correctly, it could easily become the definitive console version of the game.

It sounds a little suss, given the whole Rayman Legends debacle, I wouldn't be surprised of MS and Sony are colluding in some underhanded plays against Nintendo.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised either. They know they have to do something serious to try and get ahead of Nintendo and from what Nintendo has been doing with the Wii U and what they are going to be doing with it the other consoles will need all the help they can get.

Perhaps they don't think the Wii U user base is large enough to support the porting and maintenance costs?

Apparently the Wii U isn't that hard to port games to from the X360, so costs wouldn't be that high. Maintenance is another thing and may be the reason but I see no reason for that to be a large enough reason for it to be 'very unlikely'.

Indeed, and given the Wii U has double the ram the draw distance can probably be dialled up a fair bit which us the XBLA version's main drawback

Minecraft on Wii U would be amazing if done right. The gamepad could show your inventory and crafting area at all times. Could be used as like an AR camera for taking screenshots of what you're made. Maybe even add a map to it, plenty of mods have done that on PC.

if this is happening it'd want to get cracking, else save it for ps4
personally i would loveee it on ps3, i would get rid of my 360

As long as there is mod support. Need my tekkit
