So, It Seems Lil Wayne Is Sampling Mass Effect Now

This is "Trigger Finger" from Lil Wayne's newest album I Am Not a Human Being II, released Wednesday. But Mass Effect fans should recognise that opening sample, before it lights up a bowl and rolls into the filth-flarn-filth lyrics (so, yes, NSFW warning if you're listening around others over speakers.)

"It is almost unmistakably a sample from one of the main themes from Mass Effect," says reader Aethops, and I concur. I think this is interstitial music heard very early in the original game, aboard The Citadel.

Sampling video game soundtracks. Good thing? Not a good thing? Did Weezy do it justice? Can we get some Jespyr Kyd next time?

I own the Mass Effect soundtrack and I am pretty sure this is not a sample. Not even close.

Lil Wayne definitely has lost his touch, but he did have 2 amazing albums and a few amazing mixtapes before he turned into this weird and bad rapper.

My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin My trigger finger itchin .... Nigger. Yeah he sure is amazing this stuff is way better than everything else. Note the sarcasm

I did note the sarcasm, I also noted your lack of reading ability.

Reminds me of the time Wiz Khalifa released that track that was literally just him rapping over Schala's Theme.

" (so, yes, not safe for human listening warning if you’re not deaf.)"

I know the beat that people are referring to, but this is only a very vague resemblance to it. Listen here: (Mass Effect 1 OST - Spectre Induction) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6PMJYoaGf8

The riff features in various forms in a few songs from the OST and also plays during the intro here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=5tBFPy8sauw#t=58s

Lil' Wayne's song doesn't "unmistakeably" sample from Mass Effect.

So this is similar to Coulton's situation with Glee, except that Lil Wayne could probably get sued by EA (and they have a lot more money than Coulton).

Sampling small sections is always legal, I think the minimum in most countries is something like 6 seconds but I think it was actually raised by most of them like apple etc etc to something closer to 12 seconds recently.

Except I'm sure that the music plays throughout the "song".

" Can we get some Jespyr Kyd next time?"

This is not sampled from Mass Effect at all. Lil' Wyane actually did sample a music piece by Jespyr Kyd from the Assassin's Creed II soundtrack and it's called "Leonardo's Inventions". It plays whenever Ezio is in Monteriggioni where the Auditore villa is located.

Here it is from the ACII soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V6zWf3ZPnE
