Superman Is An Incredible Jerk In The Injustice Comics

A couple of weeks ago, you might have seen Superman kill the Joker in cold blood in the prequel comics that build the backstory for upcoming fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us. You could argue that Batman's archenemy had it coming since he's a psychopathic mass murderer. But as the series has continued, The Man of Steel has pulled off stunts that can only be called naïve, stupid or straight-up maniacal.

After Lois Lane dies at the hands of the Joker, Kal-El sulks. And doesn't shave.

Then he deposes a head of state in a fictional country. The people seemed to be down with this extra-legal extradition.

That's followed by a revelation of his secret identity in a UN press conference filled with self-loathing.

OK, sure, the Joker might have been deserving of retribution. But what about these American soldiers that Superman killed? That's right. Kal-El straight-up explodes a combat chopper full of US servicemen who were presumably just following orders. That ain't right.

So, what does the US goverment do after Superman wantonly dispatches their troops? They go after Clark Kent's parents with a kill squad led by Flash villain Mirror Master. That's what you get after rather stupidly revealing your Earth name, Superman.

Clearly this version of the DC Comics icon doesn't have super-intelligence. It's clear that the creative and editorial teams are using the leeway of a tie-in product to craft a Superman who diverges from previous portayals. That'd be fine, if the results didn't feel goofy and out of whack. There's only a few weeks until Injustice comes out for Wii U Xbox 360 and PS3. I, for one, can't wait to kick Superman's arse.

I mean quite obviously it's an ELSEWORLDS style title, which I'm cool with and Supermans mentally broken by what Joker did, so I welcome this. Can't wait to see how it plays out :D

sorry i replied to the wrong person...

Someone who doesn't know what "in cold blood" means probably shouldn't be worried about a fictional character's intelligence.

In that top photo his arms look tiny and hilarious. The more you look at it the funnier it gets.

I know they're supposed to be in the foreground but the artist forgot to make them bigger because they're closer.

He he, teeny weeny superman toddler arms!!!

Oh man you're right. The longer you look the more ridiculous you realise it actually is. They're so short!

That's almost exactly what a lot of girls say about me!

I laughed more at Superman stealing the president's shirt for no particularly apparent reason.

He does look a bit too oompah loompah.

The illustrations remind me of when Marc Silvestri quit Marvel during his work on Wolverine and they tried replacing him for a couple of weeks with what must have surely been a work experience student.

Superman destroyed a drone, not a "combat chopper full of US servicemen". In the first page it clearly states the soldiers are at a drone command in Nevada.

It does have an "Elseworlds" feel to it.....Interesting to see Superman go off the rails a bit. It's well written and I enjoy reading it on the DC AP for my iPAD. I especially enjoyed Wonder Woman's banter with the God Of War. Ares, espwcially after Superman knocks him down and out...
Kudos for something different. I still don't dig the high collar and "armor" look to Supe's costume....

"I've been at the mercy of men just following orders. Never again."

love that this is filed under "in real life".
also, yes it wasn't a chopper with men in it. the premise for the much of article is false. great 'research' (misreading a 20 page comic)

To my mind, Supes isn't being a jerk, as much as his grief and guilt is being manipulated.

    Diana's the jerk

has the joker ever crossed over into supes world before? thought he was strictly gotham and had no interest in other cities like metropolis?
admittedly i am not a huge dc fan, so my knowledge is limited :)
