This Week In Games

2013's run of one huge release per week continues except this time we've got two humdingers coming your way. Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm is technically an expansion pack — but come on son! You know it's going to be massive. God of War: Ascension is also coming out this week, which is another biggie. At least the funds from your wallet are being siphoned on a week to week basis instead of ALL AT ONCE!

God of War: Ascension (PS3)

What is it? Yes, you may have heard of this mildly popular series. This time it has multiplayer. Should you care? The single player is typically epic in scale, but familiar. I've thoroughly enjoyed what I've played so far in the game's multiplayer. It's the kind of thing that sounds like a bad idea, but the team has done a great job with the character classes.

Monster High: Skultimate Roller Maze (3DS)

What is it? It's one of those crazy DS/3DS games I have no idea exists until I go looking for new games for the 'This Week In Games' post! This is based on a Mattel fashion doll franchise. Should you care? Yeah, probably not.

Police Force 2 (PC)

What is it? Sorry, but I know absolutely zip about this game. And there's very little info out there. I'm guessing it's some sort of legit police sim game? Maybe you guys and girls can help me out here! Should you care? If you love police work, you might like this! I have literally no idea!

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 360/PS3/PC)

What is it? It's a sequel to that other Sniper game that was kind of mediocre. Surprised this game got a sequel. It must have sold well. Should you care? Based on the first game, I'm going to say no. But that may be a little unfair considering I haven't really seen anything of the game itself.

Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm (PC)

What is it? Bro, it's Starcraft II bro. Should you care? I think if you care about Starcraft II, you're going to care about this. Otherwise. You won't. I know, this is elementary stuff, but I can't think of any other way to put it! In short: I get the feeling you don't need me to tell you whether or not to care about this!

The Basement Collection (PC)

What is it? This is a collection of Ed McMillen flash game output on disc. Pretty cool actually. I didn't know this was getting a retail release. Should you care? Definitely.

I'll be honest, @markserrels, I feel that Ed McMillen was a one-trick pony and gets way too much credit...

Super meat boy was amazing. The binding of isaac was kinda rubbish, and mew-genics looks equally bad, IMHO. I don't know why, but he's become somewhat of a Notch-type figure where the games industry linger on every word he says and every game he creates...

In other news - STARCRAFT II!!! WOOOOOOO!!!!

Binding of Isaac rubbish? Naw dude.

That said, I got Basement collection awhile back and I was pretty unimpressed by it. Flow was interesting, but everything else, including the retro version of Meat Boy, were pretty crappy.

I really didn't think binding of isaac was anything more than a flash game - and not a good one at that. It could have been so much better...

IDK, to each their own, I suppose...

Binding of Isacc is one of the best games of the last five years. So replayable.

The Basement collection was interesting in a sort of 'this is part of the creative process' sort of way, but it was quite crap.

Super mega disagreeancies with your The Binding of Isaac statement :P

Did you play much of it?

Yeah, I played about half the game. I don't know why, but I really didn't like it. :/

I had a go of it when it ended up in one of the Humble Bundles. Equally wasn't a fan.

I mean I didn't enjoy it so much because it ran slightly like arse on my shitty computer (wasn't so bad windowed, mainly just in full screen) but I still didn't find it enjoyable at all. So glad to finally see someone else who felt the same instead of just waxing lyrical about it all the time :P

          About half?

But its randomly generated! Are you sure you played it?

Yeah, randomly generated, but it has endings. One of my friends told me I was about half-way done when I finished, so I'm taking that as the indicator. I'm not sure what it actually equates to in terms of game-time, though.

But like... I don't understand. There's no save function! You can't just stop halfway, its all or nothing!

Like I said, I don't know where I was. I'm basing my opinion off what a friend told me after the fact.

Hey, Notch's other games are pretty cool. Gotta distinguish between the games that Notch heads and the games that the rest of the project leads of Mojang take.

The Binding of Isaac is the best thing McMillen has done.
I never had that much love for Meat Boy, but Isaac is just incredible. It's my second most played game on Steam at nearly 300 hours. I 100%'d it twice. I'll do it again when the remake comes out.

I certainly don't agree with the idea of him being elevated to a Notch level; I just don't think many people care that much about what he has to say. Notch does get too much attention though.

    Kratos Sackboy incoming!!!

Will pick up GoW, but it will sit unplayed for awhile.

I really need to dedicate a day to Blizzard customer service. When my password was reset during the hacking incident I couldn't remember my original details because it had been so long since I made the account.
I haven't found time to sit on the phone for the length of time it takes to get through to an actual person ever since. I once had my phone going for an hour on hold before I had to do something else and had to hang up.

God of War for me day 1!

Also -Kotaku mobile site still not working for me :( Is anybody else having this problem or is it just me?

Often, I gave up on it a while back. SOmetimes in desperate need I try again and it works...mostly.

Kotaku mobile has been down for the past week or so. Desktop view sorta loads but is also slow and crashes a bit.

I tried to dig into Police Force 2, and yes, it seems Police Force was an attempt to create a police simulation.

The best/only information I have on Police Force 2 comes from here:

So I guess if you liked Police Force 1 but always thought "what this is really lacking is a working police station and forensics lab", then Police Force 2 just answered your prayers.

I'll borrow GoW in a few months off of @gutsoup But otherwise, nothing here tickling my fancy

@jimu, you can borrow Tomb Raider while i beat GOW, I'm getting it from OGS so it'll take a while. You'd probly like the new Womb Raider, it's more platformy and puzzly (pretty simple mostly) than shooty. Plus there's bewbz ( o ) ( o ). Also it's not very open worldy so that won't bug you either.

I will, I wanna play, is it shortish? I'm only at the pig town in Ni No Kuni. Got addicted to Dissidia on PSV

It is pretty short, if u didn't care about any of the collectibles you could get through it really quick. Now go finish Ni No Kuni... do it

As soon as I can I will.

sweet, I'm about to get back to it, I stopped when i beat the story and got sidetracked with Tomb Raiding, I wanna try get the Ni No Kuni Platinum, even though the alchemise 120 +- formula trophy is gonna a time consumer.
              Drippy beckons me .... AWAY

Isn't SimCity also supposed to be playable this week? Oh wait no that's next week or maybe the week after, I dunno lololol

Getting God of war, heart of the swarm and maybe sniper 2 if it gets good reviews

Just about finished Tomb Raider. So I'll probably get God of War. Doubt they'll top the Cronos and Poseidon battles but am excited for some more like them
