Cracked’s Rundown Of The Worst Video Game Endings Is Absolutely Hilarious

Alright, quick disclaimer — I don’t like to make a habit of linking to any old article written about video games but this Cracked article is simply so hilarious, so out there that I just had to share. Even if you’re not a fan of Cracked, this is completely unmissable.

This article had me in tears.

It’s a timely reminder of how hilariously bad video game endings can be. I won’t spoil it for you because reading through the rundown is part of the fun. But my personal favourite is the Mortal Kombat 4 ending.

It’s hard to put into words just how bad that acting is. But if I had to compare it to something in the real world, it would be when a little kid is playing with action figures, and he just starts slapping them together, making up his own little script as he goes along, changing his voice ever so slightly to differentiate between the two characters that he’s created. I’m positive that’s exactly what’s going on in that cut scene.

In fact, now that I think about it — fighting games always had the best worst endings, mainly because each character had to have their own ending. You could almost visibly see the moment where everyone stopped giving a shit.

This is the best thing I’ve read all week.

  • Anyone finished Outlander on the SNES? That had a glorious ending 😛 Also many gemes from the 8bit era had disheartening endings especially considering how difficult the games could be.

    • Definitely a worthwhile read. Makes me think parts of it could apply to any game review.

‘…And you’re left sitting alone in front of your computer, wondering how long you’ve been weeping and if you’ll ever truly be able to enjoy the presence of another human again. Because you know that a group of people had something horrible inside of them that made this game. And if that terrible wickedness existed in those people, then maybe it could exist inside someone you love and trust. And you just don’t know if that’s a risk you can afford to take.’

  • Ha ha ha!

“these animations were obviously drawn by one of the producers’ children by clinching crayons between their ass cheeks”

    Thanks

  • i love the ending of MK it fit the whole theme of the game. FFS you have a guy jump out of the corner of the screen and yell “Toasty” along with all the othe silly shit in that game.
love it love it love it 😀

    • All Tekkens have awesome endings. Always a mix of “serious”, funny and bizarre, depending on character. And brilliant how related characters have intertwined endings. Love ’em.

  • Not a fighting game but tetris has the worst ending ever.
Seriously a dude gets in a rocket ship and flys off… why? what did that have to do with stacking blocks? why was he even there? were the blocks invading alien blocks? possibly stopping his ship from launching untill i had completed 20 levels of stacking?

    • I still love it when I get to the rocket in tertris. I never thought it made any sense, but I always thought itwas a handsome reward.
