Didn’t Like Hollywood’s Dragon Ball Movie? Neither Did Dragon Ball’s Creator

Hollywood’s take on Dragon Ball sucked. Sucked badly. If you thought that, you were not alone. Dragon Ball‘s creator Akira Toriyama wasn’t thrilled either.

In an interview with Asahi (via 2ch), Toriyama talked about the ill-fated Dragon Ball movie, Dragonball Evolution.

“At the time of the live-action Hollywood version, the script didn’t really capture the world or the characteristics (of Dragon Ball)”, Toriyama told Asahi. “What’s more, because I thought the content was bland and not so interesting, I cautioned them and gave them ideas for changes.”

“Nevertheless,” Toriyama continued, “they had this odd confidence and didn’t really comply with my suggestions. And just as I thought, the result was a movie I cannot call Dragon Ball.”

You could call it a hot mess. No, you couldn’t even call it that.

Be sure to read Kotaku‘s review of Toriyama’s latest film, Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.
