   I absolutely hate to say this, but I can see this degenerating into the Call of Duty of movies. I really, really, really hope I’m wrong.

      If they do a good job, there Is a huge back story which the movies don’t cover, for fans of the books it might actually work out well…

   I think this could be good. I don’t foresee them being any worse than the prequel series.
   I foresee movies that may not be fantastic or instant classics, but at least fun blockbusters.
   Kinda like all the Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

      Yeah those movies are getting released twice a year or more, so by comparison this isn’t so bad. It’ll probably follow a bunch of different loosely tied plotlines, like having Han, Chewy, Leia and Lando for one movie, Luke and the new Jedi order in another, Wedge teaming up with Baron Fel (I dunno, grasping here..) on space adventures.

   I’m sure ill be in the minority here, but I don’t think this will be a bad thing. I’m looking forward to seeing what people other than Lucas can do with the franchise.

   I know this is a pipe dream, but I would love to see an Old Republic film that features Reven and Kreia/Darth Traya. I still reckon they are the best two characters that have ever come out of the entire Star Wars universe, canon or no.

      I’m with you. JJ Abrams is going to be directing them. He’s a massive Star Wars fan and grew up loving the films.

      I was listening to The Nerdist podcast and they were talking about how much emotional involvement he is probably going to have in these. He’s not going to let the Star Wars reputation be tarnished, even if just for his own kids sake!

      The special effects and creatures will surely be amazing. I’m really excited to see what can be done with it.

      In an ideal world, I’d rather another studio other than Disney owned the brand though, as I’d like to see a bit more violence. C’est la vie.

         That’s debatable. Original trilogy were definitely Space Fantasy no argument there, but the new trilogy borders sci-fi thanks to midichlorians.

   I am a huge star wars nerd, books, comics, games, merch, collectibles etc

   I am so happy about this, sure some movies will suck horribly but does that mean the originals suddenly exploded? They are offering us MORE starwars. Not taking anything away. There are already more bad movies than good in the franchise. It’s a big universe. Lots of stories to tell.

   This will do exceptionally well for 2-3 years and be determined after.

   As much as people dislike the idea as they’re some what fans of the franchise, it’s hard to believe they won’t watch it themselves (every year).

   There will be a point where they get fed up but first 2-3 years I can see hundreds of millions from the movies releasing and people watching it to see the expectation of what’s to come in the future of the star wars franchise.

   I’m excited for more light saber action, mainly because I’m not a fan. I’m one of the numb minded general public that is amazed by explosions and action scenes more than the story.

    This is going to completely kill it. Part of why it was so good before was that you had to wait 3 years each time. Then 20. Then you were disappointed.

    But churning 1 out every year guarantees the quality is going to be same as prequels or worse. You doubt me? How many good disney movies have you seen?

       Quite a few. And if “Disney movies” include movies put out by all of Disney’s studios (such as Pixar, Marvel, Miramax and Touchstone), that number increases to “shitloads”.

          Name em’. C’mon. I have kids. I’ve seen most of them. Most of them aren’t that good.

          And pixar not counted, unless they’re making the new star wars animated (which would rock).

          But even pixar have made some stinkers. What were they thinking with Cars 2? And brave didn’t really do much for me either.

          Toy Story 3 was amazing though.

             I grew up watching Disney movies and loved a lot of them. Stuff like Dumbo, Bambi, The Lion King, Cinderella, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, The Black Hole, Fantasia (although that one I really only developed an appreciation for when I got a bit older), The Sword In The Stone and Tron. Probably a bunch of others that I can’t remember anymore, too.

             If you include their other labels like Miramax and Touchstone, etc you can add stuff like Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead, No Country For Old Men, Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, O Brother Where Art Thou, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, etc etc etc.

             I’m not sure exactly what the deal is with the Marvel ones because I think they started out working with Paramount before switching to Disney, so I’m not sure exactly where/when Disney’s involvement started. But trust me, Disney have made a LOT of good movies.

                Well. I’m glad you’re positive. The last sci-fi they brought out was ‘jon carter’ so… you’ve got a good attitude. I expect them to initially be pretty good, but to sink down to extremely average quite quickly. One a year is just way to quick. Obviously a cash grab of the highest order.

    I lie though, I’ll take just about anything as long as it’s not as bad as The Clone Wars CGI.

    I really hope they don’t just go the ‘ole “LIGHTSABEROMGLIGHTSABERASPLOSIONSSITHSWITHLIGHTSABERSYODAJUMPINGONWALLS!”

    The prequels really took the meaning out of everything.
