A few days ago, a poster for Battlefield 4, purportedly from EB Games, made its way onto the internet. It announced new (and not so new) features, forward knowledge of DLC and even a release date. The only problem is, it’s as fake as they get.
EB Games’ official Twitter account denounced the poster yesterday, stating it wasn’t “one of theirs”:
@GameDynamo We can confirm this is not one of our posters. Sorry to let you down guys, the date is still to be confirmed!
— EB Games Australia (@EBGamesAus) April 25, 2013
The origin of the poster appears to be a site called BF4Central — specifically this story from April 24. No direct source for the poster is mentioned — anonymous or otherwise — and the post has not been updated with the correction.
Before the clarification from EB Games, I saw a few points raised online about its authenticity — the lack of a Windows / PC logo and the declaration of Commander mode as a new feature. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t put it past a retailer to forgo a platform like the PC on a promotional poster and marketing departments are not known for getting details exactly right.
