Hack Exposes War Z Players Data, Takes The Game Offline Again

The kazoo still blows for The War Z , the Benny Hill theme of game that saw one of the most inept launches in PC gaming history back in December, a game so bad it was yanked from Steam for about two months. Now the entire game is offline after hackers breached the game’s databases and its forums, gaining access to players’ data in the process. Wait, people play The War Z?

Publisher OP Productions said in a statement that once it learned of the attack it “launched a thorough investigation covering our entire system to determine the scope of the intrusion.” The investigation necessitated taking down the game and its forums, which OP said will be offline “temporarily.” OP said no payment information was exposed.

“We are issuing this Security Alert to all Survivors as a precaution so you can take some precautionary measures on your own,” presumably that means making sure your War Z password isn’t used anywhere else, or changing it if it is.

The War Z’s servers were attacked back at the beginning of the year, taking the game down briefly.

“This has been a humbling experience for us,” says OP, coming from a position of expertise on humbling experiences. “While we all know that there is no guaranty of security on the internet, our goal is to try our very best to protect your data. We sincerely apologise.”
