New Final Fantasy Versus XIII Info Is Coming… Apparently!

Final Fantasy Versus XIII
designer Tetsuya Nomura recently appeared on a Square Enix radio program and was asked the question on everyone’s mind: When will there be new Final Fantasy Versus XIII info?

Nomura seemed to be in good spirits about the question and said, “If we’re talking about when there will be news, MD (Square Enix’s shop) put out something on the perfume. Man, that turned into a big mess, didn’t it?”

Earlier this year, Square Enix’s figurine brand manager tweeted a photo of a perfume based on Final Fantasy Versus XIII‘s protagonist.

Nomura added, “Even within the company, news about Versus is a sensitive issue. Very sensitive.”

“We’ve been silent for the past year,” Nomura continued in the radio interview, “but we’ve already picked a day to announce specific info. Bit by bit, we are in the process of getting ready for that.”

“Last year we didn’t announce anything about the game,” reiterated Nomura. “To be honest, I talked about releasing new info, but wasn’t able to, and I’d like to apologise for that.”

In spring 2012, Nomura seemed ready to talk about the game, saying they had finished preparing the latest Versus info. Oddly, he then added, “Because of a totally unrelated reason, there are circumstances in which that info cannot be released.”

Also in the recent radio interview, Nomura said, “When we make the announcement, at that time we’ll also reveal the reason for that delay.”

“I’m sorry there are things I can’t yet talk about, but please wait a little longer.” Waiting is something that Final Fantasy fans are now pros at.

It’s worth nothing that in the radio interview, Nomura only referred to the game as “Versus” and not “Final Fantasy Versus XIII”.

  • “When we make the announcement, at that time we’ll also reveal the reason for that delay.”

    PS4 launch title. Ah crap.
    (I hope I’m wrong.)

      • I just assumed with E3 being so close now the wait was for an announcement there, but that’s a fair point. An odd choice though, not like FF on the xbox has been wildly successful.

      • I doubt they’re waiting on the Xbox conference for 2 reasons. The first is that they are Japanese developers who have gone through a financial rut recently and releasing primarily on a console which is nowhere near as viable in your biggest market is not a good idea. Secondly they said they’ll be on Sony’s stage at E3 meaning it would be very sly of them to then jump on the Xbox hype train and I doubt they will.

      • It’s possible that Sony held it back from the PS4 announcement because they didn’t know until pretty late in proceedings whether Microsoft was going to try and beat them to the punch. Might explain why Squenix instead showed off the year-old Agni’s Philosophy demo instead – if Versus was PS4 exclusive, let alone a launch title, it’d be a massive shot across the bow against MS, and a nice way to cut down any momentum MS might have gained after their own announcement.

    • Unless they’re being paid to hold it back as a launch title for either the next PS or the next XBox.

If it’s just going to come out as a regular game on the current generation of consoles, after all this muddling around, no-one will care.

  • You could take away from this that the creators of the game effectively stated “The game exists and is in development”
Reminds me a bit of Rusty’s line in Oceans 12 “I can’t talk about it and I can’t talk about why”

  • I bet they’ve re-titled it to just “Final Fantasy” and it’s now a gritty reboot which will be a PS4 exclusive launch title.

  • Don’t get me wrong, I’ve waited for this game since it’s announcement. But all these delays. I have a feeling that this game is going to be “average”. I feel as though they’re just releasing it just cause of the name.
