Oh Great, Skylanders Happy Meals. Just What I Needed.

You know you’ve made it as a children’s entertainment property when Mike Fahey’s car is filled with empty McDonald’s Happy Meal boxes. Peek inside my 1996 Nissan Pathfinder between April 12 and May 2, and that’s exactly what you’ll find, as I spend a month trying to gather all nine of the Skylanders Happy Meal toys.

Yeah, I realise I can just buy the toys on their own, but why would I purchase non-functional Skylanders when I could get non-functional Skylanders and fries? Plus there’s a $10 coupon good towards a Skylanders Giants starter kit, and you can never have too many of those (yes you can).

“The Skylanders Giants Happy Meal illustrates how strong the Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders Giants brand has become in just 18 months,” said Tim Ellis, chief marketing officer, Activision Publishing, Inc. via official announcement this morning. I bet they just send him all nine of them. That’s why he’s so chipper.
