Ouya Lags Behind Existing Phones, Ranked 78 In Android Benchmark Tests

I’ve always liked the idea of the Ouya — a flexible, open way of bringing Android to the centre of your living room, but I’d also like that device to have some sort of muscle. Recent benchmark tests by Futuremark have placed the Ouya in 78th place in terms of raw performance compared to other Android devices — meaning that even older phones like the Samsung Galaxy SII Plus are outperforming the Ouya.

I realise this is most likely information that was already publically available, but seeing it placed in a list like that, and being made aware of precisely where it sits in the grand scheme of things, I can’t help but feel a little disappointed. We’re talking about a device that is being outperformed by phones using some seriously old technology. That can’t bode well for the Ouya.

At this stage one of the things Ouya has going for it is price — $99US is super accessible and works for a device you expect little from — but I did expect a little more for a product I’d like to place at the centre of my living space.
