Sega Australia Working On PS3-Exclusive Castle Of Illusion HD Remake

Last week’s teaser hinted strongly at it and now a post on the official PlayStation blog confirms that classic Genesis platformer Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse will be coming to PS3 this summer.

The post calls the upcoming release a re-imagining and says that Sega’s Australian development team is working with the original game’s director on the new version:

We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive. We are having a blast working with her to realise many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn’t be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles. If you have played the original game, you will also see that we have kept intact many of the major iconic elements of the game that helped define this groundbreaking game at the time of its original release.

Over the last few years Mickey Mouse’s last few outings in the Epic Mickey games haven’t met with the warmest of receptions. But, since it’s being built on the foundations of a fondly remembered game, things could be different for Castle of Illusion HD. We’ll see when it comes out in the next few months.
