This Creepy-Cool Metroid Poster Gives A Shout Out To Alien

Lovers of Nintendo’s sci-fi action franchise know that Metroid’s female protagonist and a cosmic ecosystem of creatures that nest all over the galaxy were inspired by Ridley Scott’s classic space horror film Alien. A new poster by artist Marinko Milosevski (who we’ve featured before) honours that thematic connection with a darkly cool image done in a movie poster style.

Here’s what Milosevski had to say when I asked him about the piece:

I know Alien inspired the game, and I wanted to start a series of posters that were like theatrical posters so this is the first of those. I also thought it’d be really fun and interesting to portray an older, simpler looking game like Metroid really seriously, which is where the dark tones and everything came from for this. Making the actual image itself was the easy part after thinking up how I wanted it laid out and coming up with the idea. I basically drew the various shapes like the egg and the Metroid and just expanded from there adding highlights to the egg and a light gradient coming out of it to shine under the bottom of the Metroid.

If you want to hang this haunting image up on your wall — maybe next to Milosevski’s awesome Legend of Zelda and Metal Gear Solid prints — head on over to his site.

    • Yeah man. Haven’t you played Metroid II? Or any of the Prime series? Or possibly others but I forget the specifics of them now.

      • I have, not in a long time though. Just don’t remember seeing or reading about any eggs. I really wanna go through the Prime games again some time, don’t think I ever actually completed the second one, got stuck/bored at the big backtracking section.

        • Ahk. Well at the end of Metroid II, Samus comes across a Metroid just as it hatches from its egg, leading to the whole motherbond thing. Then I’m faaaaaaairly sure there were some eggs or nests that Metroids came from in some of the Prime games, or maybe it was mentioned in scans. Now that I think about it I can’t actually remember. Hmm.

Really need to play through the Prime games again myself. I sure seem to forget a lot about them for someone who allegedly loves them so much. One day, one day…

          • I don’t immediately recall seeing any eggs in the Prime games, but the egg in Metroid II is very significant (especially in Super Metroid)

  • Due to the awesome image I totally ignored the title thinking this was an announcement from the Nintendo Direct that is meant to occur sometime today!!!
