Wildstar's Path System Might Be The Coolest MMORPG Feature Of The Year

Carbine Studios has already won me over with the Ratchet and Clank-style promotional videos and animated movie feel of its upcoming massively multiplayer online sci-fi role-playing game. WildStar path system, rewarding players for playing how they want to play, is a think, creamy layer of frosting on an annoyingly distant cake.

When I play an MMORPG, I am an explorer, bouncing all over the place, trying to get into secret areas, testing the limits of the world the developers have created. WildStar let's me capitalise the word — Explorer. It's one of four paths to follow in the game, along with Scientist, Soldier and Settler, encouraging players to branch out beyond their character classes, developing real character along the way.

Here's a more descriptive vid, part of Carbine's DevSpeak series.

Fedora. Fedora the Explorer. Tee!

I'm so excited, which is why I will do my best to completely forget that the game is currently in closed beta and I cannot play it. It's too painful.

Have been following this closely since it was first announced and am still amazed that it has not generated more interest. Game looks amazing. There is a thread over on Whirlpool that I started ages ago that has most of the videos in one place.

I don't know, I'm absolutely in love with the concept, with what they seem to want to do but the few actual gameplay vids I've seen look so... average.... I should probably see if there's been any new stuff in the last 6 months or so, I want it to be amazing. Love exploring in mmos, I'd say the point my interest in WoW started declining was the exact patch they removed wall jumping, bastards.

The lack of interest is probably a good thing in the MMO market. They need to catch people by surprise.

Love the style of this game and I'm looking forward to playing it. I just hope the end game isn't too repetitive.

I just want them to accept one of my Beta applications!!!
