Wildstar’s Path System Might Be The Coolest MMORPG Feature Of The Year

Carbine Studios has already won me over with the Ratchet and Clank-style promotional videos and animated movie feel of its upcoming massively multiplayer online sci-fi role-playing game. WildStar path system, rewarding players for playing how they want to play, is a think, creamy layer of frosting on an annoyingly distant cake.

When I play an MMORPG, I am an explorer, bouncing all over the place, trying to get into secret areas, testing the limits of the world the developers have created. WildStar let’s me capitalise the word — Explorer. It’s one of four paths to follow in the game, along with Scientist, Soldier and Settler, encouraging players to branch out beyond their character classes, developing real character along the way.

Here’s a more descriptive vid, part of Carbine’s DevSpeak series.

Fedora. Fedora the Explorer. Tee!

I’m so excited, which is why I will do my best to completely forget that the game is currently in closed beta and I cannot play it. It’s too painful.
