We’re getting reports from readers that Fable III is currently available for free on Xbox Live. To start the download, head to the game’s Xbox.com listing, click on download, go to use Microsoft Points to complete the purchase then complete the transaction.
Seems a bizarre mistake to pop up now, of all times. Wonder if it’s related to an impending Fable announcement for the Xbox One? I mean, it’s not like this is the first time a Fable game has mysteriously done this, and the last time was right before the launch of Fable III…
Update: Microsoft has since made the game free to download without the above method described, so we assume this is intentional.

Yeah I got that went it had my PayPal selected as the payment option by default (it still says free so won’t charge). Changed it to use points instead and it worked fine.
Yeah, this works. Just change the payment option to points and it works.

I’ve always had trouble with PayPal on Xbox Live, lol. Purchasing via the Xbox itself it seems to work ok, but via the website it’s like a lucky dip, only actually works every now and then.

Yes, this should have been mentioned. I got it through the marketplace on my 360 and it appears that they’re taking a page out of Sony’s book ala Playstation Plus. It’s called Games With Gold. They have a free game for gold subscribers every couple of weeks.
Nowhere near as good as PS+, but it’s a step in the right direction.
To hell with Gold, I’ll pay the Iron Price.

You sure? I just opened it again in a different browser and it still definitely says free for Gold members. Maybe refresh/clear cookies and try again. Also for the purchase error thing, maybe your payment method is on PayPal by default, it does that to me all the time. Change the payment method to points and it should work.
Still free for me.
Also was about to say it’s in fact dropped to $19.99 for non-gold; turns out I was on the US store… Weak.
And you’re still paying too much for it.
