As Nintendo move further away from core mechanics, I find myself less and less engaged with the series. The hop, power-sliding, boost, and moderately powerful weapons are all Mario Kart needs.
Oh, and split screen. Obviously.
Man, I wish they'd bring back waggle. MK DS was the best MK by far. They just refined and refined into awesome and then they dumbed it down for the masses with MK Wii. MK7 was a step up but still...
