The Elder Scrolls Goes Online In 2014 On PC, Xbox One And PS4

"Never have our choices weighed more heavily," boasts the narrator. I'm finding that hard to believe, considering we're talking about an MMORPG -- but hey. Awesome-looking (and sounding!) trailer.

Those first-person perspective shots really help give it that Elder Scrolls feel. And... oh, yeah. The game's coming to next-gen consoles too.

TES Online's game director, Matt Firor, said the team at Zenimax Online Studios was "thrilled" to bring the game to consoles, as it is "something our fans have been requesting since we first announced the title." He went on to add that "everyone will be able to play The Elder Scrolls Online the way they want to play."

The way we want to play then. Sounds good to me! The Elder Scrolls Online is coming to a PC, PS4 or Xbox One near you in the second quarter of 2014.

Consoles as well? Was sceptical before not even going to bother with it now.

Why wouldn't it be on consoles? Oblivion and Skyrim are.

You can't really have the proper communication required for an mmo without a keyboard. It's all voice chat and as such fairly limited in its social aspects.

Yeah true, I'll be interested to see how they handle communication.

With the new Kinect it shouldn’t be a problem to just hold down a button and then do whatever gesture you wanted to show. That could actually be pretty cool.

Who says we wont see keyboard and mouse peripherals for consoles?

I already use a keyboard on my XBox for text chat, any generic USB one will work.

Dude I thought it was coming this year? LAME :(

Considering MMO's are starting to become a reality on consoles, does anyone know whether Sony and Microsoft will start allowing cross platform online play for certain titles yet?

I remember reading that both the Xbox and PS3 can allow online play against PCs, and while Sony are actually interested in opening up to cross platform multiplayer, it's Microsoft who won't allow online play between the 2 consoles.

I understand that there's probably a lot of infrastructure hurdles that are making cross platform difficult, but when you think about it, it's not impossible. That kind of stubborness by Microsoft seems to be just hurting the consumers and developers by limiting their online potential, as 3 smaller player bases aren't as good as one massive one.

Cross platform is tricky due to all sorts of things from different architecture on the consoles (should be less different this gen but last gen was crazy) to updates and bug fixes differing on the platforms, then you add DLC and it all just gets worse.
I think MS have a lot of money tied up in servers and back end for Live, much more than Sony does for PSN no doubt.

I promise to have an open mind for when this releases but I have some serious doubts about this new game. The fact that they took so long to implement a first person view, when it should have been the first thing they did does not bode well.

The narrator is Dumbledore! (I.e. Michael Gambon). That excited me.
