The owner of what was one of the largest teams in eSports is among several persons charged in what the United States government now calls “the largest hacking and data breach scheme ever prosecuted in the United States.”
Dmitry Smilianets, who went by the handle ddd1ms, is among five charged with stealing millions of debit and credit card numbers, says the AP. Smilianets owned the team Moscow 5, which competed in League of Legends, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike, reports GameSpot. The team was shut down in January and quickly reconstituted as “Gambit Gaming” in order to participate in League of Legends’ championship events.
Smilianets is in US custody and due to appear in court in the coming week. His network is alleged to have stolen at least 160 million debit and credit card numbers, resulting in losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Because the team is known in LoL circles
but what does this event have to do with lol? its as bad as the news saying “some killer with massive mental disabilities and issues killed people, oh and he played shooting video games, its video games fault, not the fault of his mental illness or how he was raised or anything like that…ect”
Violent video games lead to hacking.
Wonder if they will revoke the visa for antithetical competitions now.
