Look at that trailer. That’s the bold future of the world’s most popular free-to-play MMO. A future I look forward to experiencing should this black screen issue ever get resolved.
The third major update (counting Runescape HD) to Jagex’s original free-to-play sensation has launched as promised, but I am not seeing any of these fancy new browser-based graphics. I am seeing this:
I see it for about 10 minutes, and then I am logged out. Checking the game’s forums for solutions, I found quite a lot of folks are having the same issues. Those that manage to actually get into the game are seeing disconnects, or are just generally disappointed with the user interface. Looks fine to me. Nice and streamlined, without all of those nasty graphics getting in the way.
Jagex is aware of the issues, and is looking to make their game work. Here’s the post in that same thread from mod Raven:
We do know about the issues and we are doing everything we can to resolve them.
Unfortunately, no amount of testing can match up to thousands of players attempting the content at once.
We are looking into the issues and working on them as fast as we can. Please be patient.
If you are currently unable to log into the game, I recommend waiting until a little later when the initial rush has subsided. The world event will be around for a while, don’t worry.
For those of you who would like the old interface back, please take a look at the available presets as we have a preset that duplicates the functionality of the old interface.
Again sorry for the inconvenience.
I’ll give it another go later on this evening, after the youngins have gone to sleep. Until then, hello darkness.

I did play Runescape for quite a while at one stage and enjoyed it a lot more than some of the other MMOs around the place.. not sure if I am ready to plunge into another one or not.. I have so many games on the horizon, through Kickstarter, that I’m not sure I could invest the required time into such things as Runescape 3..
For anyone interested, Jagex released a version of the game from 2007, pre-Godwars/wilderness-trade changes/grand exchange. Oldschool.runescape.com
I’m content with Dofus = True PVP end game is where it’s at.
Any current log in issues can be fixed by the user. For instance, the black screen issue can be fixed by hitting ESC, choosing a default layout and clicking it.
It’s a good idea to properly look into something before you lampoon it with a negative review.
dont you mean runescape 1.3
