Community Kudos

Well this has been quite the week what with my extreme juice only diet and losing 4kgs in a week. But I still found time for the video gamez, and the news that comes with it. I’ve also found time in my goddamn juice drinking schedule for this — my final post of the week. Welcome to Community Kudos.

I want to thank all you guys for the support. It’s been pretty tough, galaxies away from the difficulty of the sleep experiment, but a challenge nonetheless.

Anyway Community Kudos isn’t about me it’s about the community. That’s why it’s called Community Kudos. And not ‘Mark Kudos’. Which would be weird.

But this didn’t stop many of this week’s noms making reference to my gut wrenching seven day experiment! Welbot was the first…

Welbot
No no Dear Mr Serrels. You’re not on drugs, or flipping out from the juice diet (ok you might be, but I promise this email is not as a result of anything currently afflicting you!

It’s as real as the nose on my face!

(For reference, Welbot is always super late with nominations. This week he sent some in on Tuesday. I almost fell off my chair!)

I gotta drop a nom for @platinumurchin! Just out of the blue today, he drops me a gift on steam! Divekick! How kickass! Lol see what I did there?! :p

Well, I better vamoose, before I ruin my reputation! I don’t want it getting out that I can actually get noms in before the last minute! Who knows what people might think!

This platinumurchin guy — sounds like quite the fella…

My first nom this week is for @PlatinumUrchin. He gifted me a copy of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Edition on Steam, and while he might be a fairly quiet member of the Kotaku community, he’s a really good bloke who I reckon needs some recognition.

My second nom is for @number30five for being a man of fine taste in music.

My third nom is for myself for spelling supercalifragilisticexpialidocious correctly on the first try without consulting any form of search engine.

Sorry Beardy, I just don’t believe it’s possible to spell that word correctly on the first try.

And the noms for platinumurchin just keep droppin’…

Greenius
PlatinumUrchin has been a magical gifting fairy! He’s also a little bit shifty.

Alex Pants
MAAAAAARK

Quick nom for PlatinumUrchin for the Steam gift out of nowhere. That guy’s a champ.

There was also a nom from PlatinumUrchin buried in Masha’s noms somewhere!

Masha
Noms for this week

1. BDKIAF-for offering to give me his copy of Ni no kuni and STRANGE for initiating the conversation that led to this act of kindness. The gift of Studio Ghibli and Level 5 is a gift every large black man deserves 🙂

2. Crazyguy, Ben J, Cakesmith and Jamiedeecee for expressing their enjoyment of Split/Second on TAY. Have you played Split/Second? It’s great.

Yes, it’s that simple, like a game and get nommed 🙂

3. PlatinumUrchin-He has been on a gifting spree lately. I was lucky to receive a game from him and reading other people’s tweets I’m not alone. A lot of people on Kotaku have been lucky to receive gifts from him too. It’s nice that even as he works in the mines he took some time out to remember people.

That’s it for this week, thank you for another week of content and thanks to the community for still being great.

Have a good weekend and enjoy your first father’s day as a dad. 🙂

Thanks so much for the well wishes man! Maybe I’ll get a crappy breakfast juice in bed!

But ladies and gentlemen, I want you all to pay special attention to the following nomination, because I think it may be the greatest nom I have ever witnessed. It’s definitely up there with the GOATs.

FatShady
All right stop
Collaborate and listen
Shady’s is back with a brand new nomination
Something, interrupted me slightly
PlatinumUrchin must be giving gifts nightly
Will he ever stop?
Yo, I don’t know
It’s a Kudos nomination?… Fo’ Sho’
Gave me Splinter Cell and something downloadable
He made me do something I can’t do in sandals;
Dance
The steam gift was like BOOM!
I’ll be killin them Spies when my hard drive has room
Deadly, when I play as a Mercenary
Anything less that the best is a felony
Love it or leave it
I could give it away
I’ve already hit redeem
so my Library, it’ll stay
If you have a problem
TAYbies’ll solve it
FatShady’s Rap while DJ Urchin revolves it
Uh!
*B-Boy stance*

I should conclude that what PlatinumUrchin did was freaking awesome but it honestly never surprises me what this community will do for one another.. but this is also the nomination method that I am most proud of and i want to see a week where all nominations or a competition is based on song!

I have no words.

How do you follow that? A nomination for meeeeeee! That’s do it!

Where to begin where to begin,

Firstly ill start with @serrels for putting his body through a juice coma for science!

Secondly I’m gonna go with @dc for just generally being an awesome guy doing awesome things as awesome people do.

Thanks Cam. Only two days to go. Almost there.

Oh and D.C. also dropped noms. Short noms.

D.C.
I nominate Rayman Legends. Globox in particular if you want to be specific!

And @transientmind!

Still haven’t got myself a copy of Rayman Legends yet, but I’m super keen.

Today’s final nom come from Hermes… JacksonWRyan, or whatever he’s calling himself these days. This guy changed his name on Twitter and I had no idea. I had been talking back and forth with him and I didn’t even know it!

I hope your juice fast is progressing well. As I have stated before, I completely do not care for the actual idea of it all, but anything that makes you write is a good idea, for mine. The reason your writing is so good is because it tells a story. Like, hell, if you can write about a juice fast and interest people, you’re doing something right hey? So, I am gonna nom you. Is that allowed? Is there rules to community kudos? I don’t even care, I am breaking them all. This is where I break bad.

Anyway, look, I just want to get something off my chest here. It’s important. I wrote something during the week that I was super proud of and bullish about getting people to see. While that is all well and good, it made me realise something about this community that Kotaku and yourself have fostered. It’s something you no doubt already know. When I first posted the article, it was taybies that jumped up and thanked me and were super supportive and just all round good humans. Some of my best friends follow me on twitter and they, while nice, weren’t anywhere near the level of Good Human that the TAYbies were. It’s just such a warm, beautiful feeling to hear that from people you do not know in a place (the internet) that gets a bad rap as a hotspot for trolls and degenerates. Like one time I dressed up as Goldust and sang Spandau Ballet and they still are nice to me. Ya feel?

So after all that, this week, my nominations for the Community Kudos Award go to everyone in TAY who has ever taken the time out of their day to say hello, to offer support, to be a shoulder, to laugh with, joke with, tell stories with, internet high-five etc. All that mushy stuff, dude. Mushy like those juices your drinkin’.

All the best,
Enjoy your weekend,
Jackson Hermes Sciencejayz Millions o Dollas Thoth

This guy can write. Seriously.

Anyways, I’m out of here. Time for me to curl up into a fetal ball and feel sorry for myself for the next two days.

Who is this week’s winner? It’s PlatinumUrchin obviously!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Community Kudos is your chance to reward Kotaku readers/posters who have done incredible things throughout the past week: sporadic acts of kindness, deft commenting skills — if someone deserves to be called out for being an incredible human being, Community Kudos is the place to do it. Send nominations directly to me at this address! The winner gets a cool prize from my massive box of stuff.*

Disclaimer — I’m am really bad at sending stuff out, I have a list, I haven’t forgotten, I’m totally getting round to it. Sorry everyone!
