Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s launch is experiencing crowded servers. So what is Square Enix’s temporary workaround? Stop digital download sales.
In an official notice on Square Enix’s Facebook page, the company writes:
Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, we are currently experiencing extremely long wait times for users to be able to log in and play. As a temporary measure, we will halt sales of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A REALM REBORN’s digital download products so we can accommodate all of those wishing to play. We are working to expand our server capacity in the coming days.
Launch headaches are fairly common for big MMOs. On Square Enix’s Facebook page, of course there are FFXIV players upset about the congestion, the inability to play, and Square Enix’s shortage of servers.
Some, however, are looking at this in a positive light: MMOs that start off like this must be good! Ha, that’s not always true and don’t take this heavy congestion as a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. Just be prepared for a variety of issues as the game launches.

Yeah to be clear this game has no improvements over wow. It actually has a lot less and worse gameplay design. However, if you want to play as some weaboo/furrie cat girl it will really appeal to you.
wow. that is just a outright lie. we KNOW that this game is not reinventing the genre. it is very traditional MMORPG. but this game does everything WoW does and it does it better. there is only one thing i can think of that falls short, and that is the blandness of the conjurer/ white mage. but as for the duty finder, saving and switching gear sets, FATEs, gathering and crafting classes, materia slot allocations, diverse dungeon settings, amazing bosses, beautiful world and visceral music, this game offers so much. and more is coming! next update we will have PVP and housing for your free comany/guilds , the next expansion will have breeding chocobos and a casino! it’s an absolute joy to play. i’m really sorry you feel that way but i’m having a great time.
except that FFXIV has better graphics, better gamplay, better story. Good work WoW fanboi
draus y u feed
Better story? Better gameplay? lol.
You don’t see the ability to change classes on the fly as an improvement? Personalised timed quests that reward you based on speed of completion? The inclusion of short mini dungeon missions (guildheists) for quick group gaming sessions?
I’ve played WoW for years from their own launch day but seriously, you have to give credit to innovation when it’s due. I’m not saying FF innovated all the above, but they are present and they are improvements over the almost decade old WoW. Even Blizzard would admit that.
The only thing you listed there that wow doesnt have is the ability to change classes on the fly. It does however have a lot more content, classes that play a lot differently (compared to ff14), real battlegrounds, real competitive pvp and a story that wasn’t written by a 13 year old (which I’m pretty sure is who square enix hires to write it’s stories nowdays).
There aren’t any shit pandas. Wow- 0, FF- 1
Good to see them at least taking action on it, rather than keep the floodgates open for sales sake, and just end up having frequent server crashes.
I plan on getting this, possibly when I get my PS3…
I guess at least this will give me some time to consider buying or not.. I nearly clicked that BUY NOW/PRE-ORDER button for about the 10th time in the last week.. $130 for the game + 6 months of play time.. it’s actually not that bad considering that a premium game can go for $80 to $100 anyway.. and FF has always been a premium franchise.. just yeh.. trying to justify it to myself with so many other great games I could be playing is difficult. I got so close to buying it last night.. so very close.. 🙂
By the time they re-enable access the bulk of the server issues should have been resolved and people will have a better idea of the game’s longevity, so probably not a bad idea to wait.
Definately going into my local EB and picking it up. WoW these days has become a mecca for seasoned players. If you are just starting out you won’t be having much fun. Buying those better Pauldrons at the auction house…..cough up 1000’s of gold for crappy items. WoW just isn’t as fun as it was before.
Yeh.. that’s true also in regards to holding off buy FFXIV… the longer I leave it, the more veterans there will be… still.. I might leave it until the birth of my son and then see just how much time I have..
It also means a higher chance of having veterans join you for some tricky boss fights… me and a party wiped against the level 34 boss fight up until we had 5 minutes left on the timer (it has an annoying skill you need to time after another attack to avoid it. I’m being as spoiler free as possible). We either really sucked, or we had the wrong jobs for the Light Party fight.
NEED more healer people … instant is taking to long to wait lololololol :p
When you do, come to Tiamat!
I really, REALLY want to get this, but as I’m aware it’s P2P, right? I’ve read into why that is, and that’s fair enough, but ehhhhhhh
