Here's Everything That Comes With The 'Day One' Xbox One

Some of you already have pre-orders in for the Xbox One and it's simply a matter of waiting until you can find out when it's actually going to be in stores. You might think you already know enough about Microsoft's next-gen console but, this morning, the folks in Redmond are showing off what comes with a very special version of the Xbox One.

A new unboxing video on the Xbox One site opens up the cardboard enclosure that the console will be shipping in, offering a look at the bits and pieces you'll need to assemble in the right order. This isn't just any old Xbox One that's being unboxed, though. It's a limited edition Day One version. Relevant details from the accompanying blog post:

In the video, we are unboxing the Xbox One Day One edition — which includes an Xbox One console, Kinect, a specially branded DAY ONE 2013 controller with chrome D-pad, the Xbox One Chat Headset, a 4K rated HDMI cable, power supply and a code for a Day One digital achievement. This will be available in limited quantities.

The Xbox One console is state of the art - a 500GB hard drive, slot load Blu-ray drive, IR blaster port, HDMI input and output connectors, a S/PDIF interface, new Kinect sensor port, three USB 3.0 Super Speed ports, Wired and Wireless network support and a Kensington Security Slot.

The chat on Xbox One offers 3x the sampling rate of the Xbox 360. The quality of the Xbox One Chat Headset speaker and microphone have been upgraded to take advantage of the much improved audio quality. It's also super lightweight-only 44g-with a padded earpiece that can be worn on either your left or right ear, and a bendable, rotating mic boom. You can control mute and volume without taking your hands off the controller.

Now, you might remember Microsoft previously stated that the Xbox One's headset isn't shipping with the console. But based on the info above, it appears that at least the Day One edition will let you start screaming at other firsters as soon as you hook things up.

UPDATE: The video above says that both Day One and Standard editions of the Xbox One will be shipping with the headset.

UPDATE 2: After being contacted by Kotaku, Microsoft confirmed that every Xbox One will ship with a headset:

We're always thinking about what's next for the platform, and adding the Chat Headset is something we've been discussing internally for some time. We heard from gamers that a headset was an important part of the gaming experience, so we decided to include the Xbox One Headset in the Xbox One bundle.

Here are some close-up videos for the headset, charging kit and controller, too:

Awesome, can't wait....i guess not long now :D

As a hype man... Maj. Nelson annoys the heck out of me.

I would normally agree with you, the guy is an unbearably, annoying fellow. But I wish more un-boxing videos were like this. I hate awkward, overly long, mumbling, shaky cam un-boxings.

I used to agree, but his podcast is pretty funny. He's a pretty good interviewer.

Besides, the star of the video is the xone, and it looks bloody good!

How hard is it to build the power brick into the Xbox itself?

Deciding not to build it in reduces their cost - they can produce a separate power brick for each country's current/voltage without including an autotransformer and without having to cool it.

Too hard, apparently. I'd guess it was mostly to save money, but partly because they didn't want any heat issues. They might not have been able to overclock the GPU if the power brick had been internal.

Yeah, because having an external power brick worked wonders for the 360.

I’d rather have a large power brink hiding down on the floor behind my cupboard than have the extra size and heat jammed into my TV cabinet.

With the lack of backwards compatibility this generation I’m thinking I will need all the space I can get around my TV.

The day one achievement is a code, not a bonus for signing into live via XBL on "day one"? Well, guess I'm not getting that then, as I'm sure the wife will claim it.

I'm also now concerned that I might not even be getting a "day one" edition. The JB Hi-Fi I pre-ordered at was pretty disorganised and the guy behind the counter wasn't even sure he could do preorders for it yet. I assume anything on shelves/pre-ordered and available on "day one" will be the "Day One Edition" but who the hell knows.

They have signs up now saying they are offering day one edition pre orders, so hopefully.

Yeah, I just called and was advised the only version they are taking pre-orders on are the Day One Edition. The person I spoke with was much more knowledgeable than the guy who took my pre-order, and confirmed that it contained the day one controller, achievement code, etc.

I've only put my $10 down, might go put the rest down today just to be safe.

If they'll even take it. I had to twist their arm to get them to take $100 from me. I wanted to pay at least half, but they just wouldn't do it.

i preordered it 3 months ago from jbhifi and i recieved just a normal xbox one, and didnt recieve fifa 14 either .. i called them up they said needed to say day one edition on recipt :/

      Your receipt will say.

I have a Day One and Dead Rising 3 Day One Edition pre-ordered. Might add Day One Ryse too.

    Keen for ps4

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on an Xbox One article.

        Anytime bro

If you were famous, you'd be the guy that pushes people aside that ask for autographs because, who touches that filth?

So what's the difference between the Day One edition, and the Day Two onwards edition?

You don't get an achievement, you have to pay for the play and charge kit, and they don't graffiti your controller. So not much.

Wonder how many people noticed the Xbox turned on without Kinect plugged in.

Whats the deal with this camera? i just dont get it?? is it on all the time? can i turn it off? WHAT IS IT FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can i turn the stupid thing around or does that mess with stuff?

You should watch the original Xbox reveal, they demo the voice and hand gestures.

It must be plugged in and on all the time.
If you cover it I imagine it would be like the current Kinect and say its blocked and needs to be fixed before you can continue.
MS claims it can be turned off. Well, almost off. It will only listen for the command "X-box on."
But, how can it listen for a specific command unless its listening to everything?

The same way an S4's camera will turn it's screen on if it sees your face. It doesn't mean it's recording all front-camera video.

Try again, the Kinect is *completely* able to be turned *completely* off. No listening for the "Xbox On" or anything. Its not like it has to record something to hear it, it just has to recognise it. People are so afraid of everything I swear. Its like everytime you have a phone conversation, the government is just recording everything your saying because afterall the phone has to hear what you say, instantly means it stores every word you speak near it!

Yes you can turn it off if you want.

Why the frig is the play and charge kit separate again. FFS it is 2013 and the controller still runs on AA batteries?

It doesn't run on AA. "Say goodbye to disposable batteries". Its a charge based thing, I imagine very similar to the battery packs of this generation.

does it even need a headset? can't you just use the kinect mic for game chat anyway?

yeah.. if you want everyone in the lobby to hear everything that's said in your room. not sure if it's smart enough to block ambient noise, but anyone else speaking in the room will be picked up.

doesn't kinect 2.0 have lip reading software so it can see that you are the one talking and block everything else?

but seriously, can't you do that with kinect now?

Looks neato. Waiting for them to release info on those controllers working on PC though.

I don't think having their controllers run on PC is quite the priority for Microsoft right now.

I had a wired Xbox 360 controller running on my PC about 3 months before the 360 was released in Australia.
I think my local JB got a shipment of them in from the US or something.

he turned it on without plugin in the the power supply.......

I think i like hollie from Playstation more :P

I personally think she didn't do quite a good job at showing the product off. But each to their own, hopefully you don't just like her more because... well its a her (genius marketing I must add)
