How Do We Feel About A Portable 3D Sonic Game? Watch This

It's been clear at least since the Dreamcast era, if not further back, that Sonic the Hedgehog's console games were going to be in 3D. If you wanted old-school 2D Sonic, you went to the handhelds. Well, now the next Sonic game on handhelds is 3D too. Is this a bad thing? Maybe not!

To judge for yourself, take a look at the video above, which was shot by the good people from NTower at the Gamescom show in Cologne last week. It shows the upcoming Nintendo-exclusive Sonic: Lost World running on a 3DS. Imagine that with the 3DS' glasses-free 3D effect turned on.

I dare say that a 3D Sonic on a handheld looks pretty good! Sorry, purists. Hey, at least the game has a mix of 2D and 3D gameplay. So it's not a complete departure from the old retro design.

Ohhh wow... have to admit, this video is starting to sell me on the game. This would look amazing in 3d

When was sonic ever in the sky?

This isnt so much about the handheld version but the game in general but I love that they've slowed down Sonic's running speed and added more platforming mechanics. I suppose it only makes sense for the game, but nonetheless its nice to see the devs buck the trend of Sonic getting faster every game and bring the series closer to its platforming roots

With you on that one, as a huge fan of the older sonic games I don’t see the point of making him so fast that you don’t see what you’re jumping towards until after you’ve made the jump.

I have no interest in memorising levels so that I can predict where I’ll land four screens away. That’s not fun to me at all.
