HaiTaku (manufactured) controversy — who got it right first? Yesterday’s HaiTaku was Banjo Tooie — but should we give credit to hoi_polloi who guessed Banjo Kazooie right at the start, or Dr Curlytek who said Banjo Tooie later down the track? How about we just give both of them virtual fist bumps? Yeah, that settles it.
I’ve had so, so many people send it HaiTaku submissions, so I’m going to post some reader Haikus for a while. Today’s effort comes from Gabriel. It’s tough.
Inside computer
Destroy the demon within
Seek enlightenment
Good luck everyone!
This is HaiTaku. We write Haikus about old video games and leave it you to guess what game we’re talking about. If you want to submit a Haiku feel free. Sent it here!

Sounds like TRON, but reckon it’s gotta be something else…
That was my thoughts too
Hump hump hump hump hump
Hump hump hump hump hump hump hump
Shane says it’s The Dig
No downvote because it’s hump day, but I expected better from the legendary wordSmith. (See what I did there?)
Haiku is in danger of growing stale. I’m taking it to strange new places.
Maybe the Kingdom Hearts 2 Tron Stage?
sounds possible
I would wager then Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded on NDS, that was inside a computer too.
Chips Challenge?
Oh man, that’s a blast from the past! Windows 3.1 is where I played it but apparently it was on a load of other systems way, way earlier. Good old Sokoban style puzzling!
I played it on my Atari Lynx.
I used to sleep with it, paused and still on, under my pillow and keep playing if I woke up.
I’m surprised I didn’t set the house on fire.
>and keep playing if I woke up
That’s… dark?
Biker Mice from Mars!
Are you going to guess this every day till it is right? You might be waiting a while
No different from @shane guessing the Dig everyday 😛
in all honesty, I’ve guessed biker mice from mars about 300 times now and I’ve gotten it right twice.
I like those odds
The Lawnmower Man?
Discs of Tron
System Shock?
Neuromancer
Rez?
Deus Ex?
I Have No Mouth Yet I Must Scream.
I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream* sorry.
That made me want to say Sanitarium even though it’s not inside a computer (awesome game though now I want to go back and play them both ^_^). Need to go back and finish I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream (and dig up the short story), though I wasn’t sure it was set inside a simulated environment… Although I suppose being completely under the control of an AI counts regardless 😛
Neuromancer or hacker?
Actually shadowrun
Virus: The Video Game? (Yes, this was actually a real game)
I remember seeing it, but never played it. Isn’t it the one which took images and doc titles etc from your local drive and used them as objects/textures in-game?
That was my thoughts as well. I think that was what the game was called
I’ll through retrovirus into the mix incase it is more recent
Oh wait, it might actually be Darwinia.
+1 to this
Doom
<_<
Omikron: The Nomad Soul
Isn’t that the game with David Bowie in it?
It certainly is. It was also made by Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls dev, Quantic Dream.
No one has guessed this yet so I’ll guess this is…
Cyberia
Or maybe Child of Eden?
Beneath A Steel Sky
I’m gonna go with Rez
… or perhaps ReBoot?
Seeking enlightenment is what’s throwing me off. Stretching it I could suggest Marathon due to the AI Durandal’s devilish behaviour seeking to achieve rampancy (enlightenment)?
Enter the Matrix?
Operation: Inner Space
My favourite Windows 3 title 🙂
Assassin’s Creed? enlightenment = illuminati ?
Actually Assassin’s Creed Revelations, especially with the “The Lost Archive” DLC would fit quite well with this. (The Desmond plot that is not the Ezio plot)
Aha. I haven’t played any except the first. I’ve been meaning to catch up
Ahh ok, I can’t get into why that particular game fits without some pretty big spoilers if you haven’t played yet….So go play ;).
I quite enjoy that series, it has plodded along a bit too much, but for all it’s flaws I’m still looking forward too AC IV. Be prepared for a fair slog getting through II, Brotherhood and Revelations if you try it back to back. The fact that they put out one a year really started to show in some aspects >_<
Uplink?
.hack?
Tough one.
Did they ever make a game out of those books “Space Demons” and “Skymaze”?
Is it Tron: Maze-a-Tron?
Inside computer – It takes place inside a computer
Destroy the demon within – Master Controller
Seek enlightenment – ??? Tron has light themed environments?
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time
Megaman Battle Network 😛
Retrovirus?
Facebook
Maybe, Ultima 3?
Doctor Mario
