There’s Nothing Wrong With The Vita Some Talking Dogs Couldn’t Fix

A pet sim/adventure game featuring talking dogs? PlayStation Vita Pets bounds through the forest next year to rescue the unfortunate handheld gaming device trapped in the well.

Technically the PlayStation 4 is lowering the rope with the new streaming and cross-play features the console will share with the handheld, but it’s definitely going to be PlayStation Vita Pets shimmying down that rope and helping little Vita fasten the rope around its waist.

No no,, Vita Pets, that’s its neck. Lower. There you go. Good boy.

Vita jabs aside, anyone even vaguely aware of me on a personal level knows this is exactly the sort of game that I’d chase a tiny wagon train across the kitchen floor for. It has an adventure! An adventure, Charlie! I poke fun, but only to ease the longing.

PlayStation Vita Pets is coming to the obvious platform in 2014, at least in Europe.

  • That’s a dog in a skirt.

Edit: Oh shit son! Them’s some shoulder straps! That’s a motherfucking dress!

  • EB had Vita on sale for $250. I went in there on Friday last week, cash in hand, ready to lay down my money. They told me the sale ended the day before. So I left without buying one.

    True story.

    • I saw a second-hand Vita for $170 in a retro games shop the other day. As-new condition with box and stuff. I was tempted to pick it up but I thought I’d leave it there for someone who didn’t already have one to discover.

But yeah, EB… In any case, I’m sure there’ll be some great Vita deals coming up towards or coinciding with the PS4 launch.

      • I’m expecting a price cut at Gamescom (next week, I think?). Whether that’ll be to the tune of $100 or not, I’m not sure, though. I’ve got enough Vita games piled up now thanks to PS+ that I’d be willing to pay that much for something to play them on.

        • After having one for a year… I am sick of having so few games with a ‘narrative’ story or at least talking characters (Or decent sound. Most the games sound quality is worse than PS1, Assassins Creed doesn’t even have a WHIP SOUND EFFECT!!!). Most the games feel like iPhone games and the few that don’t (Uncharted, Unit 13 and by the look of things Killzone) are just not released frequently enough.

The Vita is a great portable, but right now if you bought it on the premise of AAA console titles on the go like Sony promised.. its not happening. If you are happy with lots of Indy’s and iPhone/ android games, woop woop.

  • I found it very hard to keep up with the multiple levels of sarcasm in this article.

So, you like the game, or don’t you?

  • The thing that bugs me about these games is they’re dog-centric. For a game called PSV _Pets_. Fuck that shit.

At least Nintendogs+Cats had some half-assed cat addition to the game, which was entirely unsatisfying.

    • Have you ever tried playing games with cats or teaching them tricks? It doesn’t work, man. The cats in that game were actually really quite realistic, in that you fed them and cuddled them, and they weren’t good for anything else 😛

  • There’s something about the dogs talking that’s highly unsettling. Otherwise, this game just looks like a Sony-fied Nintendogs. Which I got over years ago (as did the rest of the world, I suspect).
