Freeplay is Australia’s longest running independent games festival and one of its traditions is an awards ceremony that celebrates and rewards the best games from Australia’s independent scene. The entries have been whittled down and the finalists have now been announced.
Winners will be announced at the end of Freeplay which takes place at the State Library of Victoria this coming weekend. You can find out more about Freeplay here.
I haven’t had the chance to play all of the games on this list, but if you’re keen to check out some of the best games being developed in Australia, you could do a lot worse. In particular it’s great to see Puzzle Retreat receiving so many nominations. Puzzle Retreat is one of my favourite games of this year so far. I can’t think of another puzzler that felt so accessible and well designed.
Congrats to all the nominees!

interesting stuff
Interesting stuff in the worst possible way. These nominations don’t sound legit at all.
What about best game play?
Puzzle Retreat for Visual Art? Really? I Hope Paper Fox wins that, or there are some serious problems with this..
