Community Kudos

It’s Friday afternoon, and you know what that means. It means I’ve just eaten a delicious Gozleme from the markets and it’s time for Community Kudos.

I got my earliest Kudos nom ever last Saturday. Earliest ever. The nom was for a picture, but I think the picture needs a bit of context…

Basically last Saturday was World Beard Day. A glorious day I’m sure you’ll agree. Unless you’re like me and can’t grow a decent beard.

Aleph Null kicked things off with this tweet.

Which spiraled into what can only be described as a beard duel.

That one was BeardyMcMuttonchops’.

That was Shiggy’s…

And that’s Alexpants.

Finally, that was Masha’s.

So that was all well and good. Then Beardy decided to post a pic of how happy he was about this whole beard parade…

Then this happened…

Which is a super long, round about way of explaining why Beardy sent in a Community Kudos nomination for Masha…

BeardyMcMuttonchops
I’m nominating Mashaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa for the picture in that tweet.

Okay, so sometimes people nominate me for Community Kudos. I usually don’t add them to the post because I don’t want to be an ego-maniac, and this isn’t about me, it’s about you! But I’m posting this one because it was really nice.

For Community Kudos I would like to nominate you, Mark Serrels and everyone else on the Allure team.

You are putting up with a lot of crap from some ungrateful customers, because really, that’s what we are.

I think that you all don’t get enough recognition for the hard work you put in. And really even though those instances of “why is this crap an article on Kotaku, I thought you were better then that.” are few and far between, doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt any less.

While you all may enjoy your job, I am sure this is one of the downsides.

This is why I nominate you. Team Allure, lead by Captain Serrels, outs up with a lot, especially when their journalistic integrity is called into question.

I like Kotaku the way it is. I don’t think it should change and I’m sure there are many others who agree with me.

Thing is, people are quick to complain if something isn’t up to their standards, but we forget that complimenting someone who something we like is just as easy and can brighten that persons day.

The reason I wanted to post this is that it gives me a chance to say thanks to all of you guys and girls. I know you always have my back. Whenever a needlessly nasty comment is directed at me, there’s always someone to say something nice in return. Also: when someone from the community does criticise something, you always seem to do it in the most constructive way possible, and it’s always valid and correct. So this is my thanks to everyone for being a great audience to write for and engage with!

[hugs]

D.C. dropped some mega noms this week. They made me laugh. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie get anti-noms before…

D.C.
I’d like to nominate the UFC (whatever that is) for scheduling a Brisbane match! Someone at UFC HQ (whatever that is) must want Serrels and Ruffles to attend a Brisbane meat! You know you want to, Mark. The heart wants what the heart wants!

I’d also like to nominate @transientmind for hanging out with me last weekend. I was extra strength nervous and I think it showed. Couldn’t have been easy. The guy’s a trooper, my friend. A TROOPER! Anti-noms goes to White House Down for being the worst movie I’ve ever seen in my life.

I’d like to nominate my good pals at Arcade Fire for getting @sughly to go to BDO out with me through persuasion of awesomeness.

@strange deserves noms for all kinds of reasons, but did you know she got a Demon Soul’s tattoo? https://twitter.com/Strangist/status/370136009704366080/photo/1 She also named a pig after me in Ni No Kuni and for that, I’m grateful. :’)

I’d also like to nominate the good folks at HBO for giving Treme a fourth season to tie things up. It’s gonna be good.

Then I’d like to nominate Alfonso Cauron for Gravity. I likes me scifi and this looks like good scifi.

I’d like to nominate @sernobulus for liking Rayman Legends and anti-nom @alexpants for not liking Rayman Legends.

Also @miketarno and @puck for some quality commenting this week in a certain Metal Gear Solid article.

Then there’s David Cage. He’s misunderstood, Mark. His games are always incredibly ambitious and atmospheric and makes my cold black heart feel stuff. Beyond: Two Souls. I can’t wait. (Wind Waker, will have to. How dare you release in the same week! D:)

Colobus Monkeys! All eight sub-species! Majestic critters of the wilds!

Boardwalk Empire! Pretty great series and very Game of Thrones like.

Allied forces for defeating the Nazi menace!

That’s all!

Bloody Brisbane, why couldn’t the UFC just held the event in the ACER Arena? That’s place is like a ten minute drive from my house! Still not sure if I’m going to Brissy for the UFC (I have family from Scotland visiting then), but I’m pretty sure Ruffleberg is going…

Last nom of the week comes from mythamphetamine…

Mythamphetamine
Would like to drop a nom for @virus__, as I had made mention that the Bioshock 2 vinyl OST had piqued my interest. He said he’d send it to me (freakin’ awesome!) but didn’t want any recompense. Turns out he sent me the whole damned thing! Thanks Virus!

Another nom for @transientmind, as I really appreciate what he brings to the table in terms of level-headedness. His contributions in TAY and other articles have cemented him as a valuable member of the Kotaku community, and I really appreciate his presence and opinions.

Alright, have a great weekend everyone! See you all on Monday! Congrats to TransientMind for winning this week’s Kudos. Is that two in a row? Stop being awesome dude!
