For a game that spawned a cartoon spin-off, a comic book and an action figure line, there’s been no activity at all on the Mutant League Football front since the game was released on the Sega Genesis back in 1993. Do you want to bring it back? That’s what game creator Michael Mendheim would like to know.
Mutant League Football was huge in 1993. Despite being launched on only one platform, Electronics Arts’ combination of gridiron madness and actual madness was incredibly satisfying, much more so than Human League Football, which nobody wanted, baby.
If Mutant League Football were released today, EA would already have three sequels in development and a free-to-play mobile version, but 1993 EA seemed content to let the game die.
It’s still dead, mind you. The new Kickstarter project being worked on by Mendheim, the folks at Robomodo and several interesting talents from comics, video games and art is actually called Mutant Football League, which is totally different, or at least different enough for lawyers.

Mendheim and co want this game to be huge, with some 30 teams of fully-customisable players battling it out in single games or full seasons, where keeping your squad in one, moving piece is as important crossing the goal line. I can dig it.
It’s an ambitious project, with an ambitious goal — Mendheim is asking for $US750,000 to get the game done by next year. Are there enough fans of the original to make it happen? Hit up the link below and keep track of the carnage.

Violent sport games are rare, precious, beautiful things, but I’d rather see a new Speedball or Deathrow done properly.
I am so excitebike for this it isn’t even funny.
Was interested based on how much MLF I played as a young tacker.
However since I already own multiple versions of bloodbowl and they are aiming for a mobile/tablet game ported to XBLA I think I’ll stick with blood bowl.
Might look at pickin git up if the succeed and do release an upgraded PC version like they hope to
SWEET HOLY MOTH OF WOAH!!!
ALL MY WANTS!
Oh dear. I must change my pants. I just smurfed in excitement.
Madden ’93 and MLF were a regular on Friday night gaming sessions when I was a kid. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.
Yes… please yes, I loved this game back when I still had a mega drive.
with the new introduction of fight controls in nhl14 a remake of mutant leauge hockey is also a must, simply need to add a punch button during regular play and changes to the rink and your ready to go. with the football aspect of it this could be what ea need s to do to win back football fans like myself, give a new injection of content to madden what is gettin stale. but knowing ea they would completly fuck it by adding elves with magic or some shit to it instead of just keeping to the formula what worked even back on the mega drive
They need a live action blood bowl game that didn’t play like an rts
