Yes, Pokemon X & Y looks excellent, visually. Even so, looking at the photoshop handiwork of Justin — Bieber, it’s hard not to fantasize about an entire Pokemon game in this particular style, with backgrounds like these.
I mean, it’s gorgeous! So much detail. Take a look:
Granted, we don’t have to leave the sprites to the imagination (or wait until X & Y’s release) — artist Noscium has cooked up a number of awesome Mega Evolution sprites already, along with sprites of the new Pokemon in X & Y. Check em out:

Pretty yes. Impressive, no. They simply look like 2D point and click games or hack and slashes which don’t suit pokemon franchise
I was thinking they look sort of like backgrounds for RPG battles.
Exactly. Pokemon x Fire Emblem
agreed. if they were released around 97′ they would have looked amazing
Several of those backgrounds were post 2000. Expecting this in ’97 when the Pokemon games were still 4 colour monochrome is a bit rich.
not really. The N64 was available then and could EASILY have run those kind of visuals. Who said it had to be GB/GBA? Pokemon snap ring a bell?
Pokemon snap was released 99/00
Still on 64
Those backgrounds are all from Fighting games, LastBlade , Samurai Showdown and KoF, exact versions not sure.
