Making A Living Off YouTube

Making A Living Off YouTube

Over the years, YouTube has proven to be a vital tool in the growth of gaming communities. Call Of Duty is one game that has been instrumental in developing new personalities through gameplay commentaries, weapon breakdowns and now competitive gaming. And gamers have found ways to make these video productions their full-time jobs.

One YouTuber that has caught the eSports bug in particular is Chaosxsilencer. He’s known in the eSports community as the founder of Team Kaliber, and in the YouTube community as a popular creator of videos — typically these days focusing on Call of Duty or GTA V — spanning everything from informative weapon mechanic breakdowns to straight gameplay. But to him? He’s a husband and a father first and foremost, whose full-time YouTube content creation job just pulled in 400,000 subscribers.

Chaosxsilencer’s team is well known to a wider range of communities, too, focusing on varying playstyles that contain them to sniping, knifing, editing and, the awesomely named warbeast divisions.

In this interview we discuss the difficulties of YouTube, building an organisation from the ground up, and potentially expanding out to other games.

Alex Mendez is a professional eSports broadcaster who has worked for companies such as Major League Gaming, World Cyber Games, IGN Pro League, Twitch TV, Electronic Arts, Activision, Sony Online Entertainment and more. You can follow him on Twitter or check out his YouTube.
