SimCity Gets A Sci-Fi Expansion On November 12

SimCity is going to the future, where hopefully the servers are better. EA's controversial city-building game is getting an expansion, called Cities of Tomorrow, on November 12.

It's set 50 years in the future, and it'll be out for both PC and Mac. It'll cost you $US30.

Press release:

SimCity Cities of Tomorrow gives players an entirely new way to dream about their city of the future. New regions, new future technology, new city specialisations and new transportation methods will transform the way that cities take shape and evolve. Will they create a utopian society underpinned by clean technology under the auspices of the Academy, or encourage giant corporation OmegaCo to strip-mine natural resources and pollute in the name of feeding consumerism? For the first time in the history of the franchise, cities can be built vertically with enormous multi-zone MegaTowers that extend high into the sky and dwarf the rest of the city. Education and research will help players discover new technologies that make their cities less polluted, less reliant on natural resources, managed day-to-day by service drones and fuelled by green energy. As the population increases, Sims will live, work, and play closer together. When players have finished deciding whether they want their Sims to live together in harmony, or as members of an exploited workforce, they can rain chaos upon them by unleashing an all-new disaster exclusive to this expansion pack.

Hmm, the city plot size doesn't look any bigger, not the "expansion" I was looking for.

Yep, 50 years in the future where multi-zone megatowers dwarf the rest of the... 1km square village :s

why are you guys still spruiking that fail of a game?

So does this mean the base game is completely fixed and working now?

So it's a bit like ANNO only with less combat and... uh... all the problems that the new Simcity brings to the table...?

When I can play sim city offline and with out Origin, maybe then I will consider it.

Looks cool. I want to play! But hey I'm on a budget and $30 for an expansion certainly seems a bit much for this game. Maybe I might get it if it goes on sale at any point... Most likely though, I'll just think "that would've been cool" and leave it at that thanks to the ridiculous price o.0

I'll pick it up when it's on sale for $5 :)

That sounds like a nice price! :P

I mean it seems like a relatively big expansion if they've futurized everything, but since they don't seem much interested in working on obviously necessary changes (like giving us proper sized plots) first I'm far less inclined to hand over money. I already handed over plenty to play the damn thing at release and watch as I had to reset many versions of cities o.0

Is that voice over meant to sound like Morgan Freeman.... cause its sort of close.

An example of EA ruining another franchise with their exploitative profiteering business model. They're doing the same thing they've done to The Sims.

This game failed. It sucks. Give it up.

There are plenty more games that offer a similar experience with more content and freedom for way less money.
