Three hundred lucky gamers will get their hands on Valve’s Steam Machine prototype this year, and we want to make sure you’re one of them.
To enter the beta for Valve’s new gaming hardware, you’ll have to follow a number of steps, and one of them can’t be done solo — you need to rack up at least 10 Steam friends. That’s what we’re here for. Hop down in the comments and post your Steam name, so we can all befriend one another and make sure that everyone has enough Steam buddies to be eligible for the beta.
If you missed it earlier, here are all of the requirements:

4. Create a public Steam Community profile (if you haven’t already)

Currently over 65,000 steam users are eligible for one of those 300 with 4 weeks to go, and 30 of the 300 will be handpicked steam users with exceptional community contributions. Not liking my chances….
I’m not liking my chances being in Australia. What’re the odds these will only be 300 US Steam Users
I’m guessing they’d want them to go out to a variety of places for testing purposes.
I’ll still give it a go, but I still think that geographically, we’d be last on the list due to shipping costs. All I need to do is play a game in Big Picture mode. Now to lug my PC into the living room
You don’t need to lug your PC to your living room. You can launch big picture mode on your monitor. I just did it before and got the badge and am now 1 of the 65,000+ people with a chance…a very minute chance.
then that is what shall be done 😀 not sure why, but I was thinking Big Picture is only for HDTVs. I’ve never used it as never had the need
Your monitor is capable of HD resolutions, so even if it was only for HDTVs, that would be enough.
don’t have to do that, Just click the big picture mode, have a controller connected and you’re done…
For anyone who doesn’t have a gamepad but still wants to be in the draw, download and use “VJOY”, a virtual gamepad emulator.
Assign the “A” key to button2.
Run big picture mode, select a game, put your mouse over the “start” button and press the A key.
That should do it.
Thanks for the tip, saved me buying a controller
I just need 4 more friends! My steam name is TheHasbroGAMER
