Wait no that was six orbs.. damnit

It sounds like a JRPG of some description. The 8 orbs could be referring to some kind of elemental connection (classic JRPG’s always loved a visit to the Ice Temple, Fire Temple, Earth Temple etc to rescue the Guardian spirits), and they loved their evil emperors.
I’m tempted to guess Seiken Densetsu 3, since at least one of the main 3 story arcs had a character going after a loved one and an evil emperor, but you collected 8 seeds in that, not orbs, so that’s probably not it.
It definitely sounds like an old JRPG, I just don’t know which one.

But there were weapon orbs and those elemental orb dealies, so my answer still stands
