The New Theatrhythm Is More Of The Same

Undoubtedly one of the best features of the Final Fantasy series is its amazing soundtrack — hence the creation of last year’s music game Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. Of course, even with over 70 songs in the game, that was just the tip of the iceberg: hence the creation of its upcoming sequel, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call.

While the final release of Curtain Call is reported to have over 200 songs, the demo at TGS 2013 had a scant dozen. However, among these were the theme song from Final Fantasy Type-0 (which was DLC for the first game) and the “One Winged Angel” remix from Advent Children.

Hands on, Curtain Call played identically to the original game (as far as I could tell) with lots of tapping, holding, and flicking the stylus in time with the music. To see how it looked in action, check out the video below.

[Sorry for the lack of in-game sound. All games in the Square-Enix booth used headphones only.]

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call will be released in Spring 2014 for the 3DS in Japan. There is currently no official word on an international release.
