Joseph Staten, an instrumental figure in the creation of the Halo series, has announced he is leaving Bungie.
He broke the news on Bungie’s official website.
“After fifteen great years at Bungie,” he wrote, “from the battlefields of Myth to the mysteries of Halo and beyond, I’m leaving to tackle new creative challenges. While this may come as a surprise, fear not. It’s been my pleasure building Destiny these past four years, and after the big reveal this Summer, our hugely talented team is on track for greatness. I’ll be cheering all of them, with all of you, when the game launches next year. Thank you for your support of me, and your continued support of Bungie. We couldn’t have done it without you.”
Staten joined Bungie in 1998 and was the director of cinematics for Halo: CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3. He also wrote one of the novelisations of the Halo universe with its fifth book, Halo: Contact Harvest. He was the writer and design director for Bungie’s upcoming title, Destiny.

It will be interesting to see what project he is going to and in what capacity.
Heh, at first glance I read the name as “Joseph Stalen,” which is awfully close to “Joseph Stalin.”
I may need to get my eyes checked.
Aw man. I’m gonna miss him. He brought SO much style and life to Bungie. He’s a good author too.
Dang. I’m sure Bungie and Destiny won’t suffer too much for having lsot him, but still. Dang.
Staten also did a majority of the voice work for the Grunts in Halo. No alterations or filters, all him.
Shame to see him go. Wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Now just hoping Marty doesn’t leave as well. =P
Staten is a large staple to the Bungie team, sad to see him leave… Going to miss his grunt voice!
