With Activision publicly announcing their support of eSports at the recent Call Of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer reveal it's become evident that this growing community has a chance to become a long-term fixture of the scene, but a lot of that is dependent on the efforts of Activision, its studios and Major League Gaming.
Most recently, Major League Gaming has announced that they will be hosting the first ever Call Of Duty: Ghosts tournament at the MLG Championships for a prize pool of $US50,000.
On November 22-24, the world's best Call of Duty teams will compete in the premiere Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox 360) tournament at the MLG Championship at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. VIP and general admission passes are available now in the MLG Store. Team passes will go on sale on Monday, September 30 at 5pm ET in the MLG Store.
The format of the event will feature a 96-team open bracket and a 12-team championship bracket. The top eight registered Columbus teams from the NA 360 Black Ops II Pro Points Rankings released on Tuesday, November 5th and the top four registered Columbus teams from the NA 360 Ghosts Pro Points Rankings released on Tuesday, November 19 will start in the Championship Bracket and will later be joined by 12 teams from the Open Bracket (4 Winners Bracket & 8 Losers Bracket).
It was only a matter of time before Major League Gaming made an official announcement, but concern is still being raised over the extent to which Infinity Ward will continue down the path taken by Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 developer Treyarch in supporting their games on the competitive scene. Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops was a featured title on the Major League Gaming Pro Circuit back in 2011. Hopefully IW will stick with the scene, too.
