Off Topic: Guilty Pleasures

I've always believed there is no such thing as a guilty pleasure. If you enjoy something — be it music, TV or video games — you should never be ashamed of it! That said, I personally have enjoy certain things that might make other shake their head in disbelief. I'm sure you have something similar. What are your own personal guilty pleasures?

For example: I really, really, really love the song Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jensen. There's just something about it. I love the hooks, I love the bippy boppy synth stabs.

I have a love/hate relationship with The Walking Dead (the TV show, not the game). I know it's bad but I continue to be compelled by it. People I have watched more than one episode of The Bachelor.

I'm so sorry.

Okay now you! Confess!

I have seen every episode of True Blood and I will see this thing through to the end, damn it.

Also, Anna Paquin's post-baby (twins!) body? Holy moly, who's her trainer?

I got to about season 4 of True Blood and my love/hate relationship with it became mostly hate and I gave up.

I'd tell you you're missing out, but my mother didn't raise me to be a filthy liar.

It has gotten consistently more terrible with each season. I think all of season 5 took place inside a conference room and at the end Bill became the vampire god.

Next season, which is the final, is basically going to be a zombie apocalypse.

Season 1 actually caused me physical distress it was so painful - Season 2 wasn't much better but it picked up in Season 3. I dug a few of the characters (Lafayette is great, and Eric actually grew on me), then it quickly degenerated into 'what the actual fuck?' territory and they lost me.

    Winners and Losers
    Beauty and the Geek
    Rom Coms

And yeah.. i've watched a few episodes of the Bachelor...

Marrying a girly girl is taking ALL my man cards

I like Call Me Maybe, but this version:

As a 33 year old straight male...

Americas next top model, Bridget jones' diary and ABBA :)

I'm a self-confessed geek, yet I have never, ever watched a full episode of Star Trek (in any incarnation). It just doesn't appeal to me at all. I've seen the JJ Abrams movie (the first one), and that's about it.

And you know what? I have absolutely no intention of ever watching it. So I'm not really sure if that's a "guilty" pleasure or not.

      no, it's not.
      not at all.
In fact, that would be the opposite of the description of a guilty pleasure. lol

Yeah I realise that now :P

The thing is that I'm actually having a really hard time coming up with something. Sure my wife has made me watch movies/TV shows and stuff, but it's not as if I've secretly enjoyed those experiences :P

I think you may have misread the article.

He is so dreamy. What a gorgeous, gorgeous man - like a big teddy bear. I have no shame in admitting that he could croon me to sleep any night.

I watched the entire season of Heroes of Cosplay. I'm not sure how guilty i should be about that.

Heh. Was the -1 for watching such bad television or because I shouldn't feel guilty about watching Heroes?

So much cheese that I need crackers when I listen to it...

I throw foreign currency into charity muggers (chuggers) collection tins.

I have a pretty wide taste of music (which would include a lot of what some people would consider guilty pleasures), but I usually say Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco are my guilty pleasures. I'm not a die hard fan or anything, but I like a lot of their songs, especially FOB.

The Ting Tings. Don't know why or how. Oh, and a lot of Rihanna's stuff, or whatever her name is. Serious departure from my usual genres.

Will and Grace. Yep, loved that show. I feel guilty about most sitcoms I like. It's like an instant off-switch for the brain.

Pretty much everything Disney... Especially the music...
Actually you know what, SCREW IT, IT'S NOT A GUILTY PLEASURE

    BE A MAN
We must be swift as a coursing river
    BE A MAN
With all the force of a great typhoon
    BE A MAN
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon

If that is now stuck in your head, YOU'RE WELCOME
    *moseys off*

Damn you, I finally got it out of my head a few days ago!

Mulan is number two on the list of "Things that seem girly but totally aren't", right after The Princess Bride.

thats probably one of the manliest songs you could ever listen to.

disneys not really a guilty pleasure, after coming back to it and watching it as an adult, you find theres so many quality jokes that you just didnt understand as a kid.

My list of guilty pleasures is too long for me to even bother attempting to list it. Bad pop? Check. Kids movies? Check. British Rom Coms? Check (But not American ones. They are bad). Wait, actually, I think that's about it. Probably good I didn't go into specifics though.

Me too on all fronts. I have far too soft a spot for Richard Curtis movies, have been listening to Katy Perry and derive plenty of enjoyment from Disney flicks.

I purchased Ride to Hell Retribution yesterday during a steam sale. I hope I get some enjoyment out of seeing this train wreck myself.

I don't know if Supernatural is a guilty pleasure as such, but it's not a fact I advertise.

Also, because I use a psudonym here, Friendship is Magic...

Does porn count as a guilty pleasure?

    Michael Bay's underrated masterpiece, Armageddon.

owww my feelings - I still get flack for shedding a tear in that movie... I'm only human

Funny you should mention that. I commented in am Armageddon sub-thread in a reddit topic about massive plot holes and I've been getting notifications of replies for the last 5 hours.

Maxwell Honey Spiced Mead. I drink it out of a giant stein while I game.

    Top Gun!

And prob anything with Tom Cruise in it really. He's awesome!

I think he's actually a pretty good actor. I enjoy most of his stuff, and think more people do than they let on - it's just the internet and media at large made it fashionable to hate on him. Because couch jumping and scientology. Which totally affects his credentials as an actor.

Agreed. I don't like Scientology and I have doubts about Tom Cruise's individual character, but as an actor you can't really fault him.

Yeah, exactly. I watched Oblivion a few weeks back, and went in not having a clue what it was really about. I actually really enjoyed it.

As a fan of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, his portrayal of Lestat in Interview with the Vampire was genius. Perfect casting, and he nailed the character flawlessly.

Minority Report gets a special mention too - that was a fantastic film.

    pipe band music

Haha I like that stupid Call Me Maybe as well... Last year when we did the Mongol Rally it had just been released so they played it about a million times on every radio station in every country we went through... Had to learn to love it to avoid going crazy!

Guilty pleasures. I have Utada Hikaru and some Hatsune Miku in my music collection. This same sizable music collection comprises 90% Metal and Industrial. I dunno man. My inner softie digs it. I also own Hatsune Miku Project Diva F on Vita, imported.
