You Won’t Believe One Person Created This Whole Game

Universum: War Front is an incredibly ambitious game. It’s a combination of real-time strategy, MOBA, role-playing game and third-person shooter, set in a wholly original universe. Impressive, moreso when you realise everything you see and hear in the video is the work of one guy.

Cyril Megem has spent the past year and a half working on Universum, all by himself. He wrote the story. He created the 2D art, which then became 3D art. He programmed the game, an RTS in which the player can take direct control of any unit on the battlefield at will. He composed the music.

From the game’s project page on Kickstarter:

” I’m a guy, who decided to stop just to dream, but to make it real. Being a professional 3D & 2D artist, game designer, programmer, and even music composer, I spent 10 years of my life working for game companies as their Lead Artist, Art Director and project manager. Finally I decided to leave my last job, staying home like a hermit for a while, and focusing on my own game development. The game you see here is a result of my personal day to day hard work over a year, and I pretty sure I can do even more with your help and support.”

Frankly I’m floored by how much of this space opera Megem, formerly the lead artist in the game development department of French publisher Monte Christo, was able to complete on his own. We’ve seen mod projects nearly as ambitious, but this is a whole new level. I’m excited to see what he can achieve with a team behind him.

Joined by Brian Dinh on sales and marketing, Megem formed StarworksArt Studio to see his epic space adventure dream game reach fruition. It’s a pretty big project as it is, and they’re looking to bring on some additional talent to make it even bigger.

Universum: War Front has a Kickstarter, as such projects often do, asking for a modest sum of $US20,000 to expand them team and scope of the game. Five days in it’s nearly halfway there — I guess I’m not the only one impressed.
