This is the debut of a new award that is close to my heart. In fact, it’s an idea so obvious I can’t believe it took us so long to come up with it. We’re an Australian site, we have a number a great local studios creating great local games — why not have one of our game of the year awards celebrate that?
So today we’re taking nominations for Kotaku Australia’s Australian game of the year. Please drop your nominations in the comments below.
Some of my own nominations are…
Stickets
Puzzle Retreat
Duet
I leave the rest of you to come up with some names. It’s actually been a great year for Australian development, so I’m really keen to see how this one turns out…

Could we have a more extensive list?
Edit: I’m going to say Bioshock Infinite
We’re looking for nominations this week from you guys! Those are just some of mine to get started.
I’d like to nominate Drink Anuver Beer Ya Soft Caaaaaarnt.
not a bad one, but the level design gets sloppy toward the end.
Antichamber \o/
There are AUSTRALIAN games???
What witchery is this???
It has? I had to look up a list of games that were developed in Australia, because I couldn’t think of any. All I could find was AFL Live 2, Ashes Cricket 2013, and Bioshock: Infinite.
I haven’t played any of those, so I’m gonna say De Blob.
Hmmm, can I nominate deBlob and pretend it was released this year? That was pretty great!
I nominate de Blob 3.
In my heart.
Oh man De Blob is criminally underated. Incredible little title sadly overlooked. Far from perfect, but addictive gameplay and a killer soundtrack! Too bad we will NEVER see De Blob 3 :'(
I’ve got plenty of games coming to mind but most of them were from PAX. Muse from Current Circus, Framed from Loveshack, and Particulars from See Through Studios.
Also, I could bring up Real Racing 3, or Deus Ex; HR Directors Cut if people were having trouble coming up with Aussie games.
ANTICHAMBER
Is escapeVektor considered a 2013 release? that was a decent aussie game.
Votes for Antichamber too.
I spent hours on that game till I realised it was very linear as the speed runners show and it was one of the few indie games I bothered playing compared to the 200 or so I bought this year.
Sadly conceding that I don’t think I played any this year.
I nominate Assault Android Cactus by the Brisbane based Witchbeam team.
Bioshock: Infinite
Real Racing 3
Freedom Fall! A great little indy title with different gameplay to just about anything else out there. It has a simple story but it’ll make you wonder about it as it progresses.
+1 to this… Freedom Fall is great! 🙂

also +1 on this
can I nominate Crysis 3 cause I absolutely loved it Far Cry
Quite a lot of good ones out there, but the first one that came to mind was Defect: SDK.

Calling Bioshock an Australian game is probably a bit of a stretch.
I’ll have to nominate myself for Lunar Flight currently the highest rated Oculus Rift title on the official Oculus Share website https://share.oculusvr.com/ and on sale on Steam right now! http://store.steampowered.com/app/208600/ 🙂
That was release last year though. Good game even without the rift, amazing with it
True, I should learn to read! 🙂
Catch The Ark on iOS was so additive! Melbourne made too.
I nom Duet.
And can i nominate Android Assault Cactus? even though the full game is not out yet, but should be by the end of the year? Because i’m loving the steam early access.
Probably Bioshock: Infinite.
I’d like to nominate our game, Boson X (www.boson-x.com).
Towncraft
Particulars
Card Hunter
World of Warplanes (kinda made in Sydney…)
Crabitron
Hackycat
Neptune’s Pride II: Titan
Self noms yeah? I’m nominating myself for CRABITRON: Giant Space Crab Simulation – We had a great response from PAX Australia and even won two awards at AGDA. See – http://crabstarter.com
Puzzle Retreat.
That said, Antichamber was pretty cool, and there were some really great little titles at PAX.
Boson X and TownCraft
Showtime! … Myrtilus Entertainment
Mark – Could you give us guidelines for criteria here? The two obvious ones to me would be:
1) Release date rules (when is too far back, and can it be a game that is not yet released?)
2) Does partial development count (e.g. Bioshock: Infinite dev was led by a team in the US)
Stickets, Boson-X, Time Surfer, Run That Town, Turnover and I probably need to think of more australian games.
Semi-serious: can we say The Bureau: XCOM Declassified?
We Come In Pieces is a nifty iOS game released this year by an indie Aussie developer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9o5PiZ8QEo
I nominate Moirai http://gamejolt.com/games/other/moirai/19558/
I’d also like to mention my own game, PATER ET FILIVS, as I doubt anyone else will. http://faithfulcorse.com/pater.html
Epoch 2 for sure!!!
Bioshock Infinite
escapeVektor for 3DS! Such an enjoyable game. I’m ashamed to admit it’s the only downloadable 3DS game I have, but regardless, it’s so bloody fun I don’t even need to get another one anytime soon.
Since everybody’s self nom – Dragon Season
http://youtu.be/oBItinJw4Bo
I would like to nominate Square Off from Perth’s Gnomic Studios.
It made the Top 20 in Microsoft’s Dream.Build.Play comp in 2009, and it just been released on iOS and Android.
Really addictive twin-stick shooter with cool art.
