Can’t decide between Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
I’ll help you. It is Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
The Last of Us
Pikmin 3
The Night of the Rabbit
Beyond: Two Souls
Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101, Rayman Legends.
Right now, I’m tossing up between Dota 2 and The Last of Us.
I’d also like to mention HANABI which has already picked up a Game of the Year award.
EDIT: Also an anti-nom to Young Justice: Legacy, which I’m halfway through and entirely hating. Admittedly, I was expecting it to be bad just not this bad. It’s actually worse than Avatar: the Burning Earth and not just because Avatar let you get 1000 gamerscore in a few minutes.
See this mark, Annoys the hell out of me, 2 of those games have been out for less than a month and you are classing them as GOTY? Triple J do the same thing with the hottest 100, its ALWAYS a song that’s recently come out. Dig deeper! GTAV? A game you played at the start of the year?
Maybe he genuinely didn’t rate any of the earlier games that highly?
I am surprised not to see Bioshock: Infinite or GTA V though.
Those two games get my vote by a fair bit. Probably GTA V though if I have to choose.
If it’s possible to complete those games in that time (or at least see the majority of what’s on offer), then yes, it’s valid to put them on the list. You can’t exclude something just because it’s recent. What if this had been done within a month of GTAV? Would you exclude that?
It’s not Triple J who vote for the songs in the hottest 100. It was no surprise that thrift shop and somebody that I used to know the year before were number ones, they were huge songs for those years.
Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Ni No Kuni
GTA V (I vote Trevor for character of the year too)
Last of Us
Stanley Parable
Papers Please
Saints Row IV
That is all
GTA V
LAST of Us
Beyond : Two Souls
Bioshock Infinite
Tomb Raider
Antichamber
Rocksmith 2014
Edit : Theres a whole bunch of other stuff that I wanna nom, but feel I havent spent enough time with to be able to, like Link Between Worlds, GTAV, Ni No Kuni & Last of Us.
Ni No Kuni
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
The War Z (PC), Star Trek – the game (Xbox-360), The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.
Oh, you.
you forgot XCOM : The Bureau : Declassified & Alien : Colonial Marines.
Edit : oh, & Ride to Hell
Ashes Cricket 2013 although I don’t know about that one seeing as it got cancelled after release.
what?
Two days after Ashes Cricket 2013 came out, it was pulled from Steam and cancelled.
thats amazing.
Not as amazing as some of the videos from it.
My Top 4
The Last Of Us
GTA V
Bioshock: Infinite
Tomb Raider
And for overall Wort Game Of The Year (I don’t know if there is a topic up yet) has to go to:
Ashes Cricket 2013 – A game so bad and buggy it was pulled and cancelled two days after launch
The Last of Us
Bioshock Infinite
Tomb Raider
Gone Home
The Wolf Among Us
but I could really have stopped after the first one.
The last of us
Pokemon X/Y
GTA V
Ni No Kuni
The Last of Us
THE LAST OF US
The Last Of Us
Persona 4: Golden
Also Papers Please, Last of Us and GTAV if I’m being nice.
Bioshock Infinite, if there was anything else…
The Wolf Among us
Bioshock Infinite
Tomb Raider
And the remake of Baldur’s Gate II. But this game doesn’t count of course.
The Last of Us
GTA V was close. Thoroughly enjoyed it. But TLOU is still sticking in my mind daily and will not let me forget it, and I’m eagerly awaiting the SP DLC.
-BioShock Infinite
-Fire Emblem Awakening
-Ratchet & Clank: Nexus
-GTA V
Ooh, Ratchet. How is the game? RRP is like $35, seems extremely cheap for a good game!
It’s cheap because it’s short, but it feels kind of… Perfect. I mean, for a ratchet and clank fan, that is. It probably wouldn’t mean much to others, but I’ve played it 3 times and plan to play it at least another 2 in the near future.
Basically, it’s short and sweet. You might leave it thinking you might have wanted more, but knowing it didn’t really need it.
#1. Metro: Last Light
#2. The Last of Us
Honourable mentions to GTA:V (whose illusion of a living world lasted well past the 20hr mark), Antichamber (for a refreshing take on the puzzle genre), Bioshock Infinite (for the story it was trying to tell), and Rocksmith 2014 (for doing what Guitar Hero and Rock Band couldn’t, even though it consistently slaps you in the face as soon as you think you’re doing well).
Metro last light seconded. What a game that was. Highly underrated.
The Last of Us
Bioshock Infinite, Lat of Us, Tomb Raider, Skulls of the Shogun, Monaco, Shadowrun Returns and The Cave.
Persona 4 Golden, and everything else can suck it!
I’d upvote you twice if I could.
Everything else does suck it, compared.
Ni No Kuni (it needs more nominations), GTAV, Tomb Raider, Europa Universalis IV, The Last of Us (of course), DMC, Bioshock Infinite.
The Last of Us
Pokemon X/Y!
Grand Theft Auto V
Bioshock infinite
Papers Please
If I limited myself to one, I would say AC4
A Link Between Worlds.
The Last Of Us. Seriously, there’s a reason everyone pays attention when Naughty Dog releases a game.
Wait, that was a game Naughty Dog released? I thought it was a movie.
I hope you’ll forgive me for not taking seriously the opinion of someone who voted for nothing but sequels.
I’m surprised to say it, but DOTA 2 is my overall GOTY. Seriously can’t stop raving about it.
Mentions
-Last of Us
-Pokemon Y
-Fire Emblem Awakening
-Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag
My top 4 would be:
The Last of Us
Tomb Raider
Bioshock Infinite
GTA V
Think id say my top was Bioshock Infinite, if not for the discussion that followed it and the way it made me read all the forums and video reviews to piece it all together.
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
I’ll say a Pokémon X & Y, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Super Mario 3D World.
DLC Quest fo sure
I’m going to nominate Thomas Was Alone. For no other reason than it was the only game aside from Pokemon X/Y that I finished this year. But I still really enjoyed it. Pokemon X/Y was great, but I had a good idea what I was going to get. Thomas Was Alone was something different that I didn’t know what it was.
Fire Emblem: Awakening
NBA 2K14
Pokemon X/Y
Link Between Worlds
The Last of Us. First game in a long time that I’ve played through twice. Compelling story mixed with a decent game made for a very enjoyable experience, plus online is pretty good as well.
The Last of Us
Tomb Raider
Bioshock Infinite
While I’d love to nominate something a bit more obscure, the “highly anticipated” crop of this year’s releases have all been exceptional.
FIRE EMBLEM: AWAKENING! Not only GOTY but also best game on the 3DS!
The Last of Us
Tomb Raider
Splinter Cell: Blacklist
AC IV
Gunpoint deserves a mention, that was brilliant – prob can’t stack against the others though.
Ni No Kuni
Weak year, though.
Wow, weak, really? In what universe? What was a strong year if i may ask?
Ever since my PC died I’ve been a PS3-only gamer and the type of games I most like are RPGs, so for me it was a weak year. I know it was a strong year for a lot of people. The only games I’ve bought this year were Ni No Kuni, Bioshock Infinite and The Last Of Us.
2011 was a super strong year- Deus Ex Human Revolution, Portal 2, Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3, Batman Arkham City, Little Big Planet 2, that’s just off the top of my head
Yeah 2011 was stronger. But 2013 was pretty awesome. Grab yourself an upgraded pc – i know, easier said than done, but there were some fantastic pc exclusives and indies this year. At least with your ps3 you’ll have gt6, dark souls 2 and persona 5 to look forward to. Hell, just those 3 could last you a year.
ps – you missed skyrim from 2011 😛
2007 is my favourite year in recent memory.
“Your favourite year in gaming” might be a good article for this time of year
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
The Last of Us
Both amazing
Bioshock Infinite
Guacamelee
The Last of Us
The Wolf Among Us
Persona 4 Golden by a loooooooong shot. So good!
The Last of Us
Ni No Kuni
Pokemon X/Y
Assassins Creed : Black Flag
The Last Of Us!!!!!
Zelda: a link between worlds
Ni No Kuni
State of Decay
Army of two the devils cartel (not sure if was released this year)
Payday2
Ni no Kuni
Assassins Creed IV: Black Flags
The Last of Us without a doubt, surely.
Last Of Us
Metro: Last Light
Stanley Parable
Gone Home
Maybe Tomb Raider… I think that game had a near perfect marriage of mechanics to character arc.
Oh yeah – State Of Decay was also particularly awesome.
Is it too early to nominate Star Citizen? I know it’s not in playable form yet, but it is a game that’s been pretty “popular” this year!
Failing that, Mark of the Ninja.
BioShock Infinite
Mine would probably be Persona 4 Golden.
The Last of Us
Bioshock infinite, damn the haters.
Nott Won’t Sleep, a very different game for toddlers.
