Smash Bros. Creator Is Always Being Recorded At Work, And He Hates It

You wanna see video of Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai in his day to day work overseeing game development? Apparently, there’s heaps.

Sakurai is hard at work on the upcoming Smash Bros. games for the 3DS and Wii U. According to his column in Weekly Famitsu, generally whenever he talks about editing and changes at work, they have a video camera to record everything he says.

Apparently this is in order to retain the accuracy of his orders. “It remains as an accurate recording.” Sakurai writes. “The people under supervision can check over and pick up things that would become blurred in something like a written memo.”

While this Watergate-esque recording of conversations is useful, Sakurai himself doesn’t really enjoy it all that much. “Everything I say or talk about is recorded as is, but to be honest, it doesn’t feel very good. You know how most people don’t really like listening to [a recording of] their own voice?”

Still, it does help in a job where so many things come over his desk it’s easy to forget what he may have said at that one 3-minute meeting 2 months ago.

Hopefully they won’t end up on YouTube, or be used as evidence in an impeachment trial or something.

Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Smash Bros. for Wii U are scheduled for release next year, and according to Sakurai, they’re “more fun than Super Smash Bros. Melee or Super Smash Bros. Brawl.”
