With the PS4 coming out on the US and some of us just about to pick up brand new consoles in Australia in the coming weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about the games I want to play first. That, in turn, got me looking back to previous consoles when they launched. So what I want to know is: what was the first game you’ve played on every console/machine you’ve owned. Come on, this will be fun!
Alright, here we go…
Spectrum 48k: Horace Goes Skiing
Spectrum 128k: Golden Axe
Master System: Moonwalker
Amiga: Kick Off 2
SNES: Street Fighter 2
Game Boy: Tetris
PlayStation: Resident Evil

Dear God I’ve owned a lot of console in my life.
Alright, now you go!

Will only post this gen:
Xbox 360: Weirdly Jade Empire. Missed out on the original Xbox so was looking forward to playing this in backwards compatibility mode. At the time it looked like BioWare were quickly becoming Xbox exclusive and that alone convinced me to get this console. Launch games bought on release were Kameo and Condemned: Criminal Origins.
PS3: Didn’t buy PS3 on launch, but got the Uncharted one-two punch of the first and second game as my first games for this system. I think that’s the greatest first impression a console could’ve made.
Wii: deBlob and Super Mario Galaxy. Such a fun Christmas.
Wii U: Zombie U.
I’m getting a PS4 on launch and will probably get Killzone and AC4.
Upvote for de Blob.
Ahhh here we go
Snes: Tmnt IV Turtles in Time
Sega megadrive: Sonic The hedgehog 2
N64: Mario Kart 64
Xbox: Halo Combat Evolved
GameCube: SuperSmash Bros Melee
Ps2: Kingdom Hearts
PS3: Resistance
Xbox360: Halo3
Wii: SmashBros Brawl
I bought a 360 for the same reason
AC4 is surprisingly good, wish I held off for the PS4 version. I almost returned the game because the first hour bored me. But once you begin sailing its great. Im loving it!!
MegaDrive: Toy Story
PSX: Gran Turismo
GB Colour: Pokemon Yellow
PS2: UEFA Soccer or something (Was terible)
PSP: Virtua Tennis
Wii: Zelda Twilight Princess
PS3:Motorstorm
Xbox360: Cod2
Nintendo 64 and Super Mario 64. First console, will always have a soft spot in my heart.
Ill be surprised if someone bought an N64 and didn’t play Mario 64 first!
GoldenEye mate….. How could you not!!!!
Oh yeah there would’ve been a subset of people who got it just for that game – by the time Goldeneye came out I already owned the system (amazing when you think that game was touted at launch, came out a year later IIRC which itself was way later than the film and was the first time i can remember a movie tie in being any good!
And then I remember the subsequent EA James Bond games which tried to cash in with the Playstation owners who’d never played the Rare original; that was your first indication as a young man, that EA were actually a bit crap!
Oh, I played the hell out of that. Just wasn’t first.
Atari ST: Wishbringer
NES: Super Mario / Duck Hunt combo cartridge
SNES: Mario Kart ringing a bell, or maybe Breath of Fire
Genesis: Sonic 1
N64: Mario 64
Dreamcast: Sonic Adventures
PS: FF8
PS2: FF10
Gameboy Colour: Pokemon Red
GBA: Harvest Moon: FoMT
Gamecube: Mario Kart Double Dash
Nintendo DS: Harvest Moon DS
Wii: Twilight Princess – Unless we count Wii Sports, in which case it was Wii Sports: Golf
360: GTA IV
PS3: Don’t remember, might have been a Buzz game.
Hmm. First game I’ve ever played on the console, like at a demo station or something? Or on the one that I actually purchased?
NES: Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt. I couldn’t say for sure which of those I actually played first, but I have a vivid memory of sitting on the floor with my family as it got set up and then playing Duck Hunt.
Game Boy: We got Donkey Kong Land and Wario Blast as our first games, so it must’ve been one of those. Probably would’ve jumped into DK first.
SNES: We got the Mario All Stars pack, then I got Super Tennis while my sister got Super Soccer. Probably would’ve popped SMAS in first. Actually, a few months back we went through some old home movies and found the Christmas where we got the SNES. I went full N64 Kid on the thing, it was pretty hilarious. And cringe-worthy.
N64: Also hard to remember. I think we got Mario 64, Mario Kart, and possibly Wave Race and Diddy Kong Racing first. I know Mario 64 was the first thing I played on a 64 at the home computer show at Darling Harbour, but that’s about it.
GB Colour: Game Boy Gallery 3 was probably first, we also got Tetris DX with it.
GBA: Hmm. I remember that my sister got Tony Hawk 2 with hers, but I can’t think what I got with mine. Was Mario Kart Super Circuit a launch title? If so I guess it would’ve been that.
GameCube: I either first played Luigi’s Mansion or Rogue Leader at the Toys R Us demo station. Picked up both of those on launch, as well as Wave Race and Burnout. Top games, all of them. I think Rogue Leader was the first I popped into the machine once I got it.
DS: Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt 😛 Or if you’re going for a “proper” game, it would’ve been Mario 64. Think I might’ve picked up Warioware at launch too? And Project Rub.
Wii: Came with Wii Sports, also got Twilight Princess, Red Steel and Wii Play. I think I might’ve actually played Wii Play first.
3DS: Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars. Best most underrated launch game for the thing.
Wii U: Guess it would’ve been Nintendo Land. Unless I went for ZombiU first. But probably Nintendo Land.
Oops, forgot:
Virtual Boy: Mario’s Tennis. I got mine with six games, this one wasn’t particularly great. Red Alarm and Teleroboxer are the best of that lot.
360: Got three games with it – Blur, Singularity and Transformers War for Cybertron. I think Transformers might’ve been the first one I played. That was awesome. The others were pretty decent too. The first game I wanted to play for it though (and bought) was Brutal Legend.
Sega Master System: Alex Kidd in Miracle World (or Spy vs. Spy if you don’t count the built-in game)
Game Boy: Tetris
Atari Lynx: Crystal Mines II
Nintendo 64: Goldeneye
Playstion 2: Kingdom Hearts
Xbox: Halo
Nintendo DS: Mario Kart DS
Xbox 360: Gears of War
Wii: Wii Sports (or Excite Truck if you don’t count the bundled game)
PSP: Loco Roco
Playstation 3: Silent Hill Homecoming
Nintendo 3DS: Animal Crossing New Leaf
I’ll be getting my Xbone next week and I expect the first thing I do will be some multiplayer Battlefield 4. I will probably get stuck into Dead Rising 3 over the weekend, though at this point I don’t have DR3 preordered so that might not happen. I’m planning to go move my Watch Dogs preorder money to the DR3/controller bundle.
As for consoles I didn’t actually own, I’ll still list my first experiences:
Commodore 64: Ghouls n Ghosts
Atari 2600: Asteroids
NES: Super Mario Bros.
SNES: Super Mario Kart
Sega Mega Drive: Earthworm Jim
Amiga: Gunship 2000
Playstation: Destruction Derby
And I think that’s every console I’ve ever played on.
Game Boy: Donkey Kong Land
Game Boy Pocket: Super Mario Land
Game Boy Colour: Donkey Kong Country
Nintendo DS: Nintendogs
Nintendo 3DS: Rayman
SNES: Donkey Kong Country
N64: Yoshi’s Story
Gamecube: Luigi’s Mansion
Wii: Wii Sports
WiiU: NintendoLand
I like Donkey Kong. 🙂 ….and Nintendo.

Gameboy Color: Pokemon Silver? (Stretching the first game thing, all gameboy games before this one)
N64: Goldeneye 64
GBA: Golden Sun
Gamecube (might have been before GBA, this one’s hazy): Super Smash Bros Melee – according to wikipedia chronology, since for the life of me I can’t remember
DS: Starfox? Aside from the Metroid Prime Hunters demo that came with it, don’t think I played DS games initially, was busy with FF tactics GBA cart
Wii: Red Steel
360: Guitar Hero World Tour
PS3: Demon’s Souls
3DS(XL): Skylanders Spyro’s Adventures (I was waiting for Fire Emblem, ok?)

Kind of interesting how I have that hazy period in the middle when the SNES / N64 stuff remains so clear.
NES: Super Mario Bros
Gameboy: WarioLand
N64: Mario 64
PS2: Grand Theft Auto 3
PS3: Not actually 100% if it was COD Modern Warfare or not.
Xbox 360: I think it might of been guitar hero.
Xbox One: So far AC4 and BF4 pre ordered, might add either Forza or NFS to that.
Funny how memorable those old consoles first games were, they were typically some of the best on the system for the entire life, while current consoles your first game doesn’t seem anywhere near as memorable.
