Yes, The PS4 Can Stand Vertically -- Without Help

You keep asking, so we're going to answer. The PS4, like the fat PS3 and Xbox 360 before it can stand without a stand.

Worried that it's too skinny? Don't be. Check the video above. You'll also see how Sony's optional $US15 adds a little more stability.

Disclosure: I'm the kind of daredevil who currently keeps his super-slim PS3 vertical, too.

I understand that having your console standing on its edge creates more room, but doesn't it increase the risk of it doing damage to discs?

I have often asked myself this too...currently all of my consoles (Wii U, Xbox 360 S, PS3 Slim) stand vertically due to space limitations in my loungeroom, as will my PS4 when I get it. Surely though gravity has some kind of effect on the discs over time?

Like... your discs will eventually turn oval-shaped?

Hmm, what makes you say that? Because gravity is trying to pull it downwards? Interesting thought :)

What if someone accidentally knocks it while you're playing a game, there's also the risk of the console being knocked over.

Also, I know this is about the Playstation 4, but Microsoft have stated that the XBox One wasn't designed to stand vertically, and that if you do it, it's at your own risk.

It's probably better to keep your upright console in your entertainment cabinet rather than in the middle of the floor :P

Hahaha, I was actually thinking about people like me, who keep their consoles on their computer desk. My computer screen is tons better than the old CRT TV in the lounge room, wouldn't even be able to plug my Xbone into it (no HDMI ports), and it allows me to game if the TV is being used.

I've had my PS3 vertical for 7 years and it hasn't skipped a beat. In fact I'd say its likely the reason its lasted so long with the way the vents are positioned on the system allowing the heat to come out of the top of the machine. I'm hoping the PS4 is similarly designed

I don't think this will be as big of a problem for the newer consoles because it is mandatory to install games to HDD, the only reason the disks are there is for authentication (I think? I might be misinformed).

But still, years from now when you delete older games off your HDD you're gonna need a disk in tiptop condition so you can reinstall the game if you're feeling nostalgic or something :)

I too can stand vertically without help.......wheres my article??

What exclusives does the boogoose come with and what rezzes do you do since that is all that matters?

How does the device and stand compare to vibrations in the environment for example seismic activity? Max Subs blasting during a party next to the PS4?

I asked the question, now do a video.

does it wobble vertically as well as horizontally?
