Zelda Meets Macross, ’80s Child Brains Explode

Zelda Meets Macross, ’80s Child Brains Explode

These illustrations of Link and Zelda were done by Haruhiko Mikimoto. You may not know him by name, but if you’ve ever seen Macross, you’ll know his work.

Mikimoto was character designer on the series, meaning if your heart has ever fluttered for Roy Focker, he’s the man to thank.

He never worked for Nintendo, but he did do these pieces in an old issue of Newtype, and they’re just absolutely terrific. Link and Zelda have never looked more ’80s.
