Ghosts ‘N Goblins: Demon World was a new game up on Kickstarter looking for funding. Its developers said that they had “discussed” working with Capcom on securing the classic series’ licensing. Capcom says nope, never happened, and has instead set the lawyers on them.
The game’s Kickstarter page has been removed and its campaign shut down, the Japanese publisher’s US arm saying in its takedown notice that “The project admits it will need Capcom’s permission to proceed and has not received one. To its knowledge, Capcom has not been contacted by the project.”
Ouch.
Ghosts ‘N Goblins – Demon World (Canceled) is the subject of an intellectual property dispute and is currently unavailable. [Kickstarter, via Indie Statik]

I freaking LOVE ghosts n goblins and nothing would be better than a new GnG game. Of course Capcom were going to shut it down, since they’re on the brink of bankruptcy they wont risk a third party developer potentially damaging one of their IPs. On the other hand, this might have saved them being that it’s not their own developers having to work on it, and if it’s good and really kicks off with the old school gamers, then they would have had the potential of raking in the cash.
They still may get approval to use the IP, but being that capcom is a japanese game company, i highly doubt it.. as much as i love japan, their game companies are never one’s to listen to the fans, or the wider international fan base..
Here’s an idea…how about Capcom stops being a sooky bitch and makes one themselves!
Can’t they just call it “Spooks ‘n Spectres” or something?
