Talk Amongst Yourselves

This is where Kotaku readers go to talk about the stuff we're not already posting about. Think of it as the official unofficial Kotaku community forum.

About 25 people have shared this to my Facebook today.

I... I don't even know where to start with this.

Just post back YOU'RE ALL FUCKING INSANE

I called bullshit on it and everyone started jumping down my throat and started telling me that I must be having sex with Newman.

          There's a mental image I didn't need.

My facebook feed is generally filled with Newman performing all sorts of sex acts with all sorts of things :S

            It's really annoying.

Sounds like you need to do a cull!

Start by condemning the LNP. If it's been corroborated by 25 people, it must be true.

My first suggestion would be "So they're posting the videos eh? Give me a link to prove you're not bullshitting"

Or if you want to scare them off say "AWESOME! I so wanna watch that! Link it now!!!"

      Last edited 04/12/13 11:44 pm

start with a google search for news articles containing the words 'motorbike or bike or cycalist and railing' from Australia.

not a single hit. its most likely bullshit.

It's just a reworking of one of the other ones that are still going around.
I had a bunch of 'don't flash your lights back at somebody if they flash you or they will follow you home and kill you as part of a gang initiation'.
At least I know this one should be taken seriously because ALL CAPS

I think this should be allowed on those douches who ride on those noisy electric bicycles at 9am on a weekend.

      fuck those guys.

    I'm excited!:

You can spend real money in Bravely Default to make the game easier! How awesome is that?

I love that kind of DLC, cos I can ignore it with no problem ;-)

More TV discussion, more of the time! XD

Sorkin is terrible and only went to TV because he failed in games!

Hmmm, that's an astute observation. I will ponder it some!

        *strokes patchy chin stubble*

@shane: So good to have a Treme pal to talk with as new eps air. I've gone three seasons with no one to ramble with. XD One last thing from the season premiere I loved:

Toni's daughter not being a cliche. Happy that her mother is happy. Would've been very easy to have her remain the surly teenager, but I like how she's grown up. Creigh would be pleased they've both moved on, I reckon.

More people should watch this show. It's brilliant. Has an authenticity to it that I don't think exists to the same degree anywhere else in television, largely of course to the characters who resist stereotypes and tropes.

And that Shorty music was crazy catchy!

      Last edited 04/12/13 10:58 pm

The sad thing is I'm pretty sure most people aren't choosing not to watch it, they just don't know it even exists. :'(

I tried to get Mr.Strange to watch it but he turned his nose up at it because he's a doofus.

I told you when the series ends, I'm there :-)

It ends in four weeks. You could start watching it now! :)

    @strange @shane

    They're taking preorders again.

    Edit: O_o... Dat price

    Last edited 04/12/13 10:24 pm

That's the Japanese edition with replica weapons I believe. Hence the price. Also Play Asia. Hence the price :P

Edit: yep, that's the one. They look sooooo purdy. But alas. Dat price.

      Last edited 04/12/13 10:52 pm

      Dat price. D:
So long, mini weapons. I'll just have to covet you from afar.

Edit: Also, thanks for the heads-up, Freeze. You're way more efficient than Play-Asia's notification system!

      Last edited 04/12/13 11:43 pm

    Finished The Last of Us.

Fantastic. Subtle, heartbreaking, and truly adult.

    Also, post-apocalyptic urban decay!

      *nods approvingly*

Such a beautiful game. I think the gameplay mechanics in Uncharted were way more solid, but everything else in The Last of Us was perfect!

      Last edited 04/12/13 10:40 pm

I might have to check it out then. Maybe.

Spoilered for those who haven't played it (gameplay critique only)
I like Stealth games. TLoU had some issues (mainly baddies with too good vision) but I enjoyed the gameplay.

Also, thankyou to everyone here who was very good with spoilers for this game, I genuinely had no clue where it was going.

Excellent vision and utterly abysmal vision, depends who they were looking at That was the most disappointing part of the game to me, well other than the fact it finally ended and I didn't want it to

          Last edited 04/12/13 11:19 pm

Kind of felt like when I got to the last page of The Stand. I spent so much time with this world and these characters that it was sad to let them go. :'(

Or the end of ME3's Citadel DLC or the final chat in the core game before you head out into battle one last time. Garrus' goodbye speech still chokes me up a bit

SIX FEET UNDER. Can't believe I missed this, but it's one of the greatest shows ever written. About the Fisher family who runs a funeral home. It's weird. It's dark. It's funny. Also taps into something unspoken about the human experience. It's so good.

    Last edited 04/12/13 10:45 pm

Haha, thanks again man! You sure do know your TV shows! I'll go through all the suggestions and make a list of shows to watch in like half an hour, I'm a little busy watching Sex and the City at the moment, hahaha!

TV is one of my great loves. XD

I also feel like I should tell you there's a Sex and the City prequel series running on The CW in the U.S. called The Carrie Diaries. What you do with this information is your own business. :P

Why did you tell me about this?! I'm trying to break the girly show cycle! Now I HAVE to look into it, especially if Samantha Jones is in it!

            Not until season two.

Oh man, I spend way too much time reading about TV. I even read about shows I don't watch. XD

So it's just Carrie for the first season? *sigh* If a whole season of just Carrie is what it takes to see even five minutes of Samantha, so be it. Samantha is worth it. In just a few episodes she's already threatening to dethrone my all time favourite TV female characters.

                *crickets chirp*

I'm afraid I've exhausted all my Sex and the City knowledge. So how 'bout that local sporting team? :P

Haha, I never expected anybody ever to even remotely talk even the slightest bit about SatC with me, so no worries :) And sports suck, stupid sport, ruins everything!

A great show that wasn't mentioned in the previous page is HBO's Girls. So good.

I'm afraid @dc beat you to that one already :P it was mentioned in a comment though, not in his list. Although with that being mentioned twice now I'm going to have to add that to my list too! Too many shows, too little time!

Dammit. Networking night went really late. Hardly any time to keep working on Snake now :(

Networking night, eh? Make any ladies swoooooon?

He did say 'working on snake'. I guess that's what they call it these days.

A classy euphemism if ever I heard one!

Heh. That did come up tonight at one point.

"Wanna see my 4D Snake? ;D"

Man, gooky must go to better networking events than me. Networking I go to ands up being all old white ex-military men.

This is GookyCon though, the convention that happens once a year where all Gooky's love interests meet-and-greet for photo ops with Gooky!

If I did, they didn't tell me about it.

It was basically just a social get-together for all the students, first and second year. Since we don't really seem to see each other much other than the changeover in the middle of Wednesdays.

Finally saw that first year that allegedly had the gigantic crush on me way back when, though she didn't seem to show any signs of interest. Probably got over it. But then I am still sporting the 'stache I suppose :P

Heads up, Frank Darabont's new show Mob City starts tomorrow on TNT in the U.S., very short season of three eps that run for two hours a-piece. Looks incredibly good!

Dear god. I'm about to start my very first experience with an MMO.

    What am I doing?

      What one?

        DCUO on the PS4.

I thought DCUniverse shut down. Probably thinking of something else MMOish, they're not really my thing aside from swtor

          Last edited 05/12/13 12:00 am

I think it may have but they relaunched it? Maybe? I don't know. Literally never played one before.

You're a strong man to have resisted the temptation this long.

I've heard DCUO is pretty fun and it works with the mythos pretty. Hope you enjoy it. :)

You could be thinking city of heroes?

Could well be, that was the Cryptic one wasn't it?

Yep, went for quite a long time before they shut up shop

Quick do that thing, like on a computer when you reset it back to a few hours ago!

You will forget what happened in those hours... but you will have your moustache back!

If that doesn't work i remember reading on one of the earlier TAY pages that someone has a time-machine... beat them up and take their moustache!

      Last edited 04/12/13 11:58 pm

But D.C. owns that time machine, and he goes to the gym...Don't mess with him!

Heh, you shave, then look in the mirror and wonder whose face that is. Doesn't take long to get used to it.

Think of it as an opportunity to grow a proper beard. Like a MAN.

Thank you to everybody for the TV show suggestions! There was a far greater amount of suggestions then I was expecting, so it's probably going to take me a year to get through them all! The shows on my "To Watch" list are (spoilered for length puposes):
    - Orange is the new Black
    - Freaks and Geeks
    - Treme
    - The Newsroom
    - The Good Wife
    - Fringe
    - Lost
    - Gravity Falls
    - Six Feet Under
    - Vampire Diaries
    - Teen Wolf
    - Sleepy Hollow (If it's at the mid season break)
    - Young Justice
    - Avatar: The Legend of Korra
    - Arrow
    - Haibenai Renmei (if dubbed)
    - FLFC (if dubbed)
    - The Shied
    - Californication
    - The Sopranos
    - The Venture Bros
    - Archer
    - The Wire
    - Girls
    - The Life and Times of Tim
    - Naked and Afraid
    - Carnivale

Again, thank you everybody for the suggestions, especially @dc, who's TV knowledge is scarily comprehensive, in a good way, and who's suggestions make up just under half of my list!
Edited to include The Wire, cause I forgot to put it on my list :P
Double edited because there's even more suggestions, and I cave in to peer pressure real easy :P

    Last edited 05/12/13 12:18 am

      Needs more The Wire.

In fact, your list should be:

      1. The Wire
      2. Everything Else.

      Last edited 05/12/13 12:15 am

Fixed! I swear I put it on there :\ Oh-well! It's there now!

      watch CARNIVALE!!!!!!!

Episodes is pretty good too. Matt Le Blanc stars in it, the show kind of parodies him actually.

I second the Gravity Falls recommendations. That intro music is so good. The show itself is great too, good charaters, interesting mythology and just fun stories and moments. Wait until you meet waddles.

Bob's Burgers is another great animated show. I'm surprised no one mentioned it actually. Unless I missed it on the previous page

Life and times of TIm- another great HBO show. This one is animated but the situations Tim gets himself in are so funny. You want to cheer for the protagonist(Tim) but as the show goes on you get to realise he's kind of a jerk too.

I could never find this show on [redacted] sites but if you see it at an ABC shop you should watch LAID. One of the few local shows I've enjoyed and it unfortunately ended after 2 seasons.

It's a date was a surprisingly good Australian show that started this year too.

Also for a dumb but funny reality show watch Naked and Afraid

      Psst, hey you, over here

There's way too many shows! I was expecting like, 5-10 suggestions, MAX! I'll add Life and Times of Tim, and Naked and Afraid, but not Carnivale.
        Fine I'll add Carnivale :P
Thanks for the suggestions mate! :)
Oh, and I've seen all of Bob's Burgers, such a good show! Louise is definitely the star! I'm a bit surprised it wasn't mentioned either now actually.

        Last edited 05/12/13 1:15 am

Louise is awesome. She is great. She is definitely my favourite, although I like Tina too and her weird zombie dreams :-)

You almost scared me there with your spoiler :-)

          Edit: Spelling errors

          Last edited 05/12/13 1:50 am

Tina's dreams are so messed up! And her zombie / Jimmy Jr fanfiction! So disturbing! She's definitely second behind Louise, but Louise is just too funny to beat! All the characters are great though, it's a shame it's such an under appreciated show!

    Bravely Second

Hopefully this one doesn't take a million years for them to localize too.

Yeah, would be nice to get this within a year of Jp release

Man I was tempted to recreate Monstroso but ended up with a painfully immature idea of cool superhero.

Completely drawing a blank on his name though.

I think I spent more time in the game making characters than actually playing them.

Enjoyable game though. Would like to go back to it at some stage.

Hmm. E-mail from Good Guys, saying they weren't able to fulfil any of my order (Burnout Paradise + Soul Silver). And I still get a $40 gift voucher. On top of the refund.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

brb. ordering a whole bunch of obscure & old & possibly out of print games.
I'm gonna be rolling in gift vouchers.

The clearance page was empty last time I checked. Which happened to be the same day the deal went live I believe.

Yeah, I got one game out of three posted, same $40 voucher. Good stuff, this way I'll get at least one more game for free. :)

Okay so after hours of fiddling i'm pretty damn pleased with how Skyrim (SKYRIM!)
now presents itself without grinding my computer to a halt...

Oh wow, that sky looks like a photo!

I'd like to see more pics, during daylight, of the landscape as such.

And now for something complete different...

Whenever life gets you down, Mrs.Brown
And things seem hard or tough
And people are stupid, obnoxious or daft
And you feel that you've had quite enough

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned
A sun that is the source of all our power

The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour
Of the galaxy we call the 'milky way'

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide

We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point
We go 'round every two hundred million years
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, the speed of light, you know
Twelve million miles a minute and that's the fastest speed there is

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth

I'm home sick today :(. probably will fall asleep in a bit :) until then what games should I be looking at. Any new Point and clicks? What about RTS Games? Any awesome story games for master race?

Broken Sword 5 was just released today!

There's also The Night of the Rabbit and the Deponia series!

If you haven't played The Wolf Among Us, it's every bit as good as The Walking Dead.

      Hope you feel better, Chris.

      Last edited 05/12/13 9:07 am

Wonder Woman in the new Superman/Batman/All of the DC Characters movie

Sounds like they're trying to do an Avengers type thing without the leg work Marvel did. Justice League!

Yeah with Ben Affleck as Batman...

Edit - Which could be a good or bad thing because people now have me convinced he's actually a decent fella *squints*

        Last edited 05/12/13 9:48 am

I don't get all the hate on Affleck. 2000 Affleck maybe, but the dude has proved he can act (did anyone see Argo?)

And before you bring up Daredevil, he was not the problem with that movie.

I agree with that arguement but i guess i never shook off the 2000 stereotype of him and have violently hated any movie i've seen with him...
I'll try to be subjective about it :P

I've never disliked the guy. He's got a good head on his shoulders, he's done a decent range of flicks (including Mallrats, one of my guilty pleasures, and Jersey Girl, an even guiltier pleasure), and seems to be a down-to-earth talented guy.

i honestly don't know what it is...
I agree he's a good actor, plays his parts solidly (including Dare Devil)...
              I just thoroughly dislike him...
I'll give this Argo thing a try, and who am i kidding, i will watch Superman vs Batman...
Who knows, it might change my mind about him

              You, I like you.

And yeah, very grounded. Couple of quotes from a recent interview:

I understand I’m at a disadvantage with the internet. If I thought the result would be another Daredevil, I’d be out there picketing myself. [laughs] Why would I make the movie if I didn’t think it was going to be good and that I can be good in it?

INTERVIEWER: George Clooney kept a photo of himself as Batman on his office wall as a reminder of what can happen when you take a role for money and fame. If you had such a photo in your office, which movie would you go with?

AFFLECK: I’d probably have two or three. [laughs] It’d be tough to choose. The only movie I actually regret is Daredevil. It just kills me. I love that story, that character, and the fact that it got fucked up the way it did stays with me. Maybe that’s part of the motivation to do Batman.

                That was actually interesting...
*sigh* you guys are actually going to have me convinced that he's a "good" guy by the end of this aren't you?

Do you need proof about how passionate he is about making good movies now?

Here ya go - (You can skip to the 3:30ish mark)

                  My work here is done.

                  Cakesmith, awaaaaaaaaay!

*jumps out window, misses and hits filing cabinet next to it, knocks himself out*

The more I think about Affleck in the role the more I think it could work. I just need to stop equating him with the Affleck in my head of 10-15 years ago.

I guess that's true, i am very naive and biased when it comes to that though so it'll be hard to shrug off...
Still don't know if i could see him as batman though... he might make a good "batman" but he ain't no Bruce Wayne (in my mind)

I like Affleck's choice. It's not going to be Nolan's Batman but he's got that squared jawed hero look to him.

Isn't she a bit on the petite size for the role?

I thought that as well, but if there's one thing Snyder movies have in common is getting his actors to bulk like mad and look the part.

I said on Twitter I always imagined Jamie Alexander in the role, but she's got a contract with Marvel to play Sif so that probably won't happen.

Hey, if Deadpool can be Green Lantern and Daredevil can be Batman...

I tried to reason with that as well, but the difference would be that Thor is a franchise that is actually going places.

Deadpool, Green Lantern and Daredevil aren't.

I thought a new Deadpool movie was in the works?

If by "in the works" you mean "production hell" then yes.

But my point still stands. Green Lantern is a dead franchise staring Ryan Reynolds. I would almost guarantee that contract is well and truly expired/torn up.

Green Lantern is a dead franchise
oh god yes, i would never argue that XD...
i am still hoping for a full-blown awesome Deadpool movie though

Which makes me very sad. Green Lantern had so much potential. :(

Here's hoping that that era of DC is the same as Daredevil-era Marvel in film terms. It's all going to be better from here.

Because of course she doesn't get her own movie.

I'm glad you haven't tried to sneakily delete my recommendation ;D

As well he shouldn't. It's one of the more interesting films I've seen this year.

Hahar! I'm not on the list!

You're on a list, just not that one, Buble.

American History X is probably the most uncomfortable film I have seen.

I found Once were warriors much, much more uncomfortable

I have heard what that one's about and I don't think I'll be watching it.

Really good movie and I do recommend it. Protip don't watch it on a first date

Eh, domestic violence isn't really a topic for entertainment for me.

Guys! Pants wrote about Mario being overshadowed in his own games! You should read it!

I love Mario. Not in that way though.

The LNP has claimed that Labor have no right to criticise them as Labor is irrelevant.

    That's arrogant even for politicians.

      And Newman sits arrogantly like:

So yesterday we got a $220 electricity bill. Muma nd I weren't pleased because it's right before Christmas. We will be able to pay it, it'll probably just take some scrimping and saving.
Then my aunt gave us the bill for my Nan's house which is up for sale. $650 approx.
Either we forget about Christmas, or we forget about the bill. =/

Don't need gifts to enjoy christmas. Just get some nice things later on when you have money and things are cheap.

Sucks about the timing though. I got something similar lately, always sucks.

Yeah, but it's more about not being able to afford food. I've been saving up, putting $50 aside a fortnight, so we have enough money for food.

Who is living in your Nan's place? That seems like a really large bill and shouldn't it be paid by whoever is there?

No one. Not sure why we're playing $450 for a real estate agent.

Oh the bill is for the estate agent for doing whatever they do to try and sell it?
I read that as an electricity bill and couldn't work out how an empty house had $650 in electricity usage

Yeah, but the house hasn't sold. Why right before Christmas -_-
