Dreamhack Winter, an annual LAN party held in Sweden, is easily the biggest of its kind in the world. People come from all over Europe (and sometimes futher afield) to spend a few days hanging out, seeing bands and watching pro gamers. Oh, and lugging their entire PC then setting it up in a cavernous, sweaty hall.
This year’s event was held on the weekend, and while exact attendance figures have yet to be revealed, the last two years have seen over 20,000 gamers attend. The 2012 Dreamhack Winter resulted in 15,485 connections being made on the network. That’s insane.
Tournaments were held covering everything from StarCraft to Street Fighter, FIFA to Counter-Strike, but really, most people were just there for the good times.
Below you’ll see a selection of images from the weekend. The aerial shots of the main hall are just crazy.

I miss LAN parties. Stupid internet making it convenient to play over large distances with friends.
I miss LAN parties. Stupid developers taking out LAN as an option and forcing you to be online
Indie developers to the rescue!
You can almost smell the BO from looking at that thumb
The smell….
I wish Sweden was driving distance from Australia. So take my rig there. Damn little country and its Xbots 😛
Is that fog coming from the people there?
Pure concentrated flatulence is what it is. 😛
I miss the days where PC games supported LAN without internet connection (ahem Splinter Cell Conviction) or just plain having LAN support (CoD, Battlefield) or even allowing one CD key entertain a group of people at once (Call of Duty 4, good times)
Spawn installs …. so good
One night we were all playing Dungeon Siege when we found we just had to click on the portrait of our friends and our character would follow them, attacking the bad guys.
It took John at least three hours to realise we had all gone to sleep and couldn’t pick up the items that he kept dropping for us.
Just imagine the sheer amount of porn flowing across that network!
