There Are Special Effects Artists In Video Games Too, You Know

In the movie business, there are artists who design things, then there are special effects artists who blow them up, light them and get them wet. It’s no different for video games.

While this feature usually promotes concept art – it’s very pretty, after all – it’d be unfair not to also acknowledge the tireless work of VFX artists, who specialise in things like explosions, fluids, smoke, lighting, particles, fire and magic spells.

Below I’m going to post the work of various artists currently specialising in the field. If you want to check out similar vids, imbueFX – a site dedicated to visual effects in the video game industry – is a good place to start.

Fine Art is a celebration of the work of video game artists, showcasing the best of both their professional and personal portfolios. If you’re in the business and have some concept, environment, promotional or character art you’d like to share, drop us a line!
