Quit A Killer Instinct Match Early? You Go To Jail

Double Helix, who develop the sort of free-to-play Xbox One fighter Killer Instinct, have recently shared details regarding the game's next patch. Apart from a new character, it will introduce way to punish folks who don't like to play fair.

In their notes, Double Helix calls their new system their "rage quit solution". Basically, what it does is it puts players who disconnect from matches early in a "Jail" pool, where they can only be matched against other players from the pool for a certain amount of time. Here's how it works:

- The first time your disconnect percentage goes above 15 per cent you go to JAIL

- A 10 match minimum is required

- JAIL lasts for 24 hours. During this time you can only be matched against other JAIL members

- Each time you go to JAIL the amount of time increases by 24 hours (capped at 5 days — 120 hrs)

- While in JAIL your profile icon will be automatically changed to a custom JAIL icon to let you know you are in JAIL

- When your JAIL time is up, you go back into the public again (even if your disconnect percentage is back over 15%)

- However, when back in public, if you disconnect and you are still above 15 percentage you go directly back to JAIL

- For any match that sends you to JAIL, player will take a loss

So, yeah, fairly thorough. Quitters shouldn't be much of a problem after this. If you wanna give the full patch notes a read, you can do so here.

Yes, but can it tell the difference between your internet connection dropping out and the xbox being deliberately switched off??

Yeah, I have a friend who gets banned on League of Legends because his internet drops out.

I don't want to be that guy, but it sounds like your friend should have a look at finding out why it drops out and getting it fixed? The issue is that both disconnects and legit connection drop outs don't just affect the player, but everyone else they're playing with and against as well. It's annoying enough in fighting games when either occurs (particularly in a few fighting games that punish the other player with a loss while the disconnect player gets off scot-free), but in a game like League of Legends where you have to rely so heavily on the rest of your team for any chance at winning? It can ruin the enjoyment of the game for everyone else, not just the person with connection problems.

Also, I can't imagine frequent connection drop outs for your friend being at all enjoyable. It'd likely kill my enthusiasm with playing games online, personally.

It's more where he lives that's the problem. Low connection speeds as well (I think he said 10Mb/s). I don't play it, but I can see how it would be annoying.

This idea is completely broken. Right now if you play and the person you are against quits, you BOTH go to jail.

The issue with that of course is most of the legit players get annoyed and stop playing, waiting for it to get fixed only for the rest who are forced to play online in jail to play against a larger number of ragequitters than usual.

I really hope they fix it quickly. Matchmaking is completely broken at the moment because of this.

This is so stupid. If though you vs someone that disconnects you will be jailed.
